The Austin Bat Box is a monthly indie and artisan subscription box from Austin TX! Every month you’ll receive 4-5 items that coordinate with that month’s theme. Items range from food and beverages, handmade artisan items, art, music, fashion items, decor, jewelry, games, beauty products, and a whole bunch of weird stuff – because let’s face it, it’s Austin!
I thought the name stemmed from the keep Austin weird campaign (batty=weird), but the box is named after their local bat colony. Also weird.
The theme for June is the The Weird Box! Yay for weird!
All the information is on the card – and most importantly the makers’ websites! And a rainbow unicorn! That’s not weird.
Everything in the June 2016 Austin Bat Box!
Outhouse Designs “Keep Austin Weird” Bumper Sticker ($3.50)
Outhouse Designs “Keep Austin Weird” Tie-Dyed Magnet ($2.50)
Weirdness abides and you can use the stickers to show your pride – one on the bumper of your car, the other maybe on your laptop!
Jennifer Hearts Art Whatever “Weirdo” Clip: I like this SO much and the engraved/tattoo style is perfect. My husband and I argued over who was the weirdest. I think I won! It is mine! He did take the time to note that the clip was lightweight and nicely balanced.
Outhouse Designs “Keep Austin Weird” Shot Glass ($2.99) I would sure like to know what shot belongs in this glass. Do Austinites have a statistically favorite beverage?
The back of the clip – you can also attach it to a tote bag!
Wick Habit “Beach Trip” Soy Wax Candle ($12) Well this isn’t really weird at all but it smells great and is a soy wax candle in a great beach vacation scent!
Rhythm Superfood Kool Ranch Kale Chips ($7.46) What’s weird about these? Nada. They’re actually delicious and a favorite flavor for both me and the mister. And they are gluten free non-gmo orgsnic chips.
Steve Jackson Games Dino Hunt Dice Game ($9.95) I was previously introduced to this company through BatBox and I think they are really fun! This is a dice game you can play quickly or doing whatever weird thing you’re doing and store in your bag so you always have a fun in person activity for you and your pals. Steve Jackson is a local game maker who is really famous for the Munchkin tabletop card game.
How many dinosaurs can you catch? Roll the Dino Hunt Dice and see!
In this quick game for parents and kids, you’re capturing dinosaurs for your zoo.
Roll the dinosaur picture, and you caught him! If you get a leaf, the dino is hiding, and you can try again. If you get a footprint . . . you’re STOMPED!
Push your luck to catch as many as you can, but stop rolling before you’re stomped three times, or you’ll lose them all.
Dino Hunt Dice is a game for 2 or more players. Each game takes 10 to 20 minutes, and can be taught in a single round.
This is great because it will get you to put down the phone! (Although you can also download the app!).
This box was weird but useful and fun! I love how Austin Batbox showcases local craftspeople, artisans, musicians, and businesses that I’ve never heard of – and some that I’m always like wow, they’re from Austin! A subscription would make a really awesome gift for anyone who either loves Austin, weird stuff, or even is just a SXSW addict!
