Love With Food Delux Box May 2016 box

Love with Food‘s theme for May was Love is Empathy! Love With Food is a fun snack discovery subscription available in three versions: classic tasting box, deluxe/family size, and gluten-free. We purchase the Deluxe box, because we have a big family and more snacks = more fun!

Joy is an almost perfect word to describe the almost indescribable idea of love. It’s pure happiness and utter excitement. And both of those things apply to delicious snacks too, right? Obviously. This month’s box is jam-packed full of goodies that we know you won’t be able to help loving. So spread the love (and joy) around!

For 2016, each month of Love With Food will feature a “Love Is…” theme! FYI, you can see our reviews of all 3 varieties of Love With Food boxes here.

Love With Food Delux Box May 2016 review

The May box was packed full of tasty snacks!

The information booklet contains both the ingredients for each item plus color-coded keys indicating which are non-GMO, gluten-free, and vegan!  Though they offer a Gluten-free box, it’s nice to have this kind of info handily starred for households with mixed dietary profiles.

The box comes with a stack of coupons to help you save a few bucks if you want to buy more of your favorites from the box.  There are also some discounts for other offers.Love With Food Delux Box May 2016 (11)

There was a surprise note telling us about a great thank you gift for loyal subscribers — a pair of Tieks ballet flats!  The card said to expect an email with further details on claiming the gift.  It arrived a few days later.

One Potato Two Potato Seaside Salt’n Vinegar Kettle Potato Chips:  One Potato Two Potato are really fantastic chips in the kettle tradition.  They are cooked in small batches, using sunflower oil.  You can taste the potato through the seasoning, and the crunch is great!  The Seaside Salt’n Vinegar was very tasty, they had a nice flavor and weren’t vinegared to the point of making me cough.

One Potato Two Potato Savannah Sweet Onion Kettle Potato Chips:  This flavor was unique, and it was alot more like a warm vidalia dip than a tang French onion or soup mix dip.  Very sweet and very coated, they seemed like they had an ultra mild cheese powder, they were so powdery with flavoring.

SkinnyPop Jalapeno Popcorn:  Skinny Pop is just that — delicate popcorn made without heavy oils.  The jalapeno was spicy, but it was very tasty and not overbearing.  These were a great light snack.

Beanfields Nacho Bean and Rice Chips:  I like Beanfields chips a whole lot — they have a firmer texture than most corn chips — it reminds me of the texture of Tostitos Nacho Chips from my youth.  The nacho flavoring is nice, but very mild.

Sheila G’s Chocolate Chip Brownie Brittle:  These are what you would get if you spread a single batch of brownie mix across two cookie sheets.  It’s crisp, but remarkably devoid of any burnt flavor.  The brownie flavor is very clear, but I find the concept a little bizarre — brownie lovers fall into either the chewy or the gooey camp — no one craves a crisp brownie.  They are, however, a nice cookie substitute.

Love With Food Delux Box May 2016 (5)

Kutoa Peanut Butter & Jelly Bar:  The chia and flax seed that give this bar a wonderfully dense and crispy texture also are pleasantly mild in flavor, letting the PB&J shine.  The flavor is nice — obviously, they nailed the peanut butter, but the jelly flavor is done well, too.

Love With Food Delux Box May 2016 (6)

Emily’s Chocolate Northwest Trail Mix:  This is really cute trail mix — the apple pieces are cut into little cubes that give it an elegant feel.  The fruit and nuts are good quality and have really nice flavors, the mix being sweet, but not sugary.  The nuts are very impressive, as they are usually whole and completely unblemished.

Smarty Pants Men’s Complete Gummy Vitamins:  These are a fun way to get your daily vitamins.  The gummies have a nicy texture and flavor — I quite enjoy the minerally quality they get from, well, the minerals.  Every batch is lab tested for purity.  The men’s  formulation has some ingredients not included in the women’s (like selenium), and it’s calibrated for men’s needs — for example, the men’s has three times the zinc of the women’s formulation.

Smarty Pants Women’s Complete Gummy Vitamins:  Tailored to women’s needs, these tasty gummies combine a multivitamin, heart healthy ingredients, and folate.

Love With Food Delux Box May 2016 (8)

MELI Honey Waffles with Belgian Chocolate:  These have the texture of a classic strupwafel, but the filling is rich chocolate instead of caramel.

Bombi All Natural Honey Candy:  The exterior shell is firm and chewy, and the center is filled with honey creme that tastes just like fresh honey.  Very delicious and unusual.

Glee Gum Pops:  Similar to a Tootsie Pop, but Glee gum is sugarfree!

Love With Food Delux Box May 2016 (9)

Surf Sweets Organic Jelly Beans:  The flavor in these organic jelly beans is really great — they’ve managed to pack in potent and authentic flavors without artificial ingredients.  Yummy.

Smooze Pink Guava + Coconut Fruit Ice:  Pop in the freezer, then cut for a handy push pop.  The unique design of the packaging allows a very controlled squeeze of the pop.  The tropical flavors are really nice, as they use real fruit juice and puree!

Smooze Mango + Coconut Fruit Ice:  A slightly different formulation, substituting mango for guava, but an equally delicious tropical treat.

Love with Food is always a great box to get — we love having more natural snacks to offer the kids, and its always fun to try all the treats.  Everything is made with a health and natural ingredient-minded approach, but they always seem to come up with snacks that taste better than the junkier versions.

I couldn’t figure out what flavor it was meant to be, but one of those jelly beans didn’t taste good to me. The others were ok, though. The honey candies reminded me of the ones my health-food fanatic grandmother used to give me when I was a kid. Love the Smooze things and the onion potato chips (I did find the vinegar ones too strong, which is odd for me as I like vinegar a lot). The trail mix was good, and that’s my favorite flavor of the Brownie Brittle, although it’s far too sweet to eat often. The rest of it was either just so-so or things I don’t like (the Glee gum pop, for one).
