Little Passports (USA Edition) is a kids’ educational subscription with crafts and fun activities about the fifty states.  This box is designed for children 7-12, but any bright kid 5+ would like it. Your kids will learn about the geography and culture of the United States with the USA Edition.

The first box is the “Discovery Kit,” which introduces Sofia and Sam, your “pen pals” traveling the country on a scooter ambiguously powered by science.  It contains Sofia’s first letter, a “United States Field Guide” notebook to use each month, a scratch-off book with U.S. landmarks, a U.S. map poster, and a 36-exposure disposable camera.

The Field Guide contains a few activities for the first month, like a photo scavenger hunt and a map activity.  It also has blank pages for the subsequent box deliveries about each state.

The map is poster-sized, brightly colored, and includes major highways, cities, and the state capitals.  My kids objected to the lack of a peanut on the state of Georgia, but liked the other infographics.  Apparently, they grow potatoes in Idaho.

The scratch book has fun facts about the U.S., plus that enticing rainbow background to reveal.  Kids of all ages LOVE scratch books.

My kids were intrigued by the disposable camera, something they’d never seen before (“You mean we can’t just see the pictures that we take?”).  This is a fun novelty item your kids will probably get a kick out of, assuming you can find a place that will develop the pics for you.

Every month, Sofia and Sam visit two states and send their “State Adventures” box containing a 32-page activity book, postcards, a pop-out model, and stickers for the Field Guide.  We’re all looking forward to finding out where they go first!

Overall, this box is fun, with cute basic information about the fifty states.  Older children can absolutely do all of the activities on their own; younger or nonreading children might need some assistance from a parent or sibling.  This would be a great grandparent or aunt/uncle gift, especially ahead of a roadtrip or visit to another part of the country.
