Isle Box is a subscription for outdoor enthusiasts, particularly those going into the wilderness for awhile — hikers, campers, and hunters.
This is actually the first test. If you need this box, you’ll know what the design on the packaging is. I like the use of the topographical map instead of a camouflage print. I know it is a trivial decorative item, but I think it speaks to the nature (ahem) of the box — it is not strictly a hunters box or a survivalist box filled with weird food — it is of general utility to anyone who goes into the wilderness.
The info card lists the contents of the box.
The natural spanish moss packing material is a nice touch, and it’s not as messy as one might think. There were only four items in this box – but don’t be deceived – they were all high value and quality items.
Armor Gel Wound Dressing Gel ($13.99) Armor Gel is the wound dressing gel for athletes of all ages and sports. It is built to protect your wounds so you can stay focused on getting the competitive edge in your sport. This gel can reduce the levels of common microorganisms including Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, MRSA and VRE, as well as fungi such as Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger.
Mountain House Freeze Dried Lasagna with Meat Sauce ($6.23): Of course, as soon as I laud an outdoor box for not having tons of survival food, they include a freeze dried meal. I am actually glad to have this appear in a box, as I’ve always enjoyed the convenience when having this kind of meal on the trail, yet I always find a reason not to buy them. They are great to have on hand, and the taste and texture are quite good when prepared correctly. All that is needed is some hot water, which you will be able to supply, thanks to your Nano Stove. This bag has 2+ servings, each packed with a hefty 14 grams of protein.
Kovea Power Nano Stove ($38.94): Small and powerful, this little stove mounts on an iso-butane canister to provide portable cooking capability with very little to lug. The canisters are inexpensive and you can pretty much buy them anywhere.
Nite Ize Innovation Knot Bone Adjustable Flat Bungee ($8.95): A brilliant piece of gear that combines the convenience of a bungee with the flat shape and adjustability of a strap. Bungees are never the right length, and the hooks tend to tear up gear, and it’s a pain to constantly be rethreading strapping. The Knot Bone looks to have addressed all these issues.
This is an absolutely fabulous gift for Boy Scouts, hunters, or amateur trekkers — a Seasonal Pass would make any scout the envy of their troop. I wasn’t as excited but the selections this month, but they were very useful choices. I’ve already put the Armor Gel to work on my torn-up feet!
