BaptuBox is a monthly subscription box that encourages parents and children to share quality time together making science and craft based projects. The projects are fairly simple to do, but BaptuBox is designed to maximize the time you can spend crafting with your kids by providing project ideas and supplies for you.
The box contains a complete set of instructions for each craft in the box.
All the supplies in the box. This month’s box includes supplies and instructions for three complete crafts.
The instructions walk you through each project — what supplies you should be using, how to put them together, and what your craft should look like (approximately) at each step of the process.
Each picture in the booklet is shot with a filter that mimics the style of the classic “Take On Me” video by Aha! (except in color). I get a kick out of that — it looks cool, but it also makes me feel less pressured to get our project to look exactly like the photograph.
New subscribers receive a Welcome Kit with some basic crafting supplies to use on this and other boxes. It includes kid-sized scissors (for use by kid hands, not the size of the entire child), and a set of markers.
The supplies for the frog puppet. They packed the paint bottles in a plastic bag — this was prescient, since they seemed to leak a little in transit (the bag protected everything else in the kit).
Some painting, drying, cutting, folding, and gluing later: Voila!
All the pieces for the second craft, the Giraffe Visor.
The foam pieces take quite a bit of glue to adhere to each other, so it took awhile to dry.
The finished visor is pretty cute.
The trickiest craft of all: the amazing Balancing Girl! The little girl comes pre-decorated, and the assembly is pretty simple — the true challenge is in affixing the weighted bar to the girl and arranging her legs on a properly-tightened rope in such a fashion that she balances.
Science says that she should balance easily due to her center of gravity being below her feet. She listed to one side, but she balanced!
The three crafts in finished form. This month’s box had a nice variety of projects — a wearable, a playable, and an experiment of sorts. I thought the balancing girl craft was especially effective at fulfilling the mission of incorporating science into the activities. The instructions are extremely well presented and thorough — BaptuBox really does a great job of putting together everything you need for an intensive and instructive project time.
