The theme for the month is Ice Cream!little thinker box july 2015 IMG_3643 All the actual instructions plus the parental guidance is included, along with all the supplies! The Read, Create, Explore, and Learn format is a new design, and is based on customer and expert feedback. We take the packs apart for photos, but each is packaged separately, which is great for spreading this box out over your month.

Create

The “Create” segment involves a fun craft activity.  This month had three separate crafts in the Create segment!

Making the ice cream cones.  The kids decorated a sugarcane, waffle cone, banana split, and plain dish with paper ice cream scoops, drizzled on toppings, and finished with a cherry on top!  They also put together a simple “I is for Ice Cream” letter craft — these all came with magnets for hanging on the fridge.  The Final craft was a pony bead key chain or zipper fob in the shape of an ice cream cone.

Explore

The “Explore” segment allows for creative play and lets the kids use their imaginations.   The kids even got a real ice cream scoop and an fun bowl and spoon set to use for real ice cream.

The kids filled out order cards to get their ice cream orders just right.

Preparing the dishes required using those fine motor skills.

Learn

The final, “Learn” segment is geared to one of three age groups.  The simplest suggests a letter recognition game, and the most complex had basic math problems.  Our version had a “starts with the letter” matching game.

They also threw in a little something extra for Mom.  This peachy granola was a little over-toasted, but we appreciate the sentiment nonetheless.

We loved this box and all the updates! The new format is solidly organized and well-planned, the mom gift is a sweet touch, and most importantly our preschooler was engaged and thinking the whole time we were doing the activities – and ice cream is always a fun theme. We always like to note – reviewers tend to do everything at once, because we have to – but this box is designed to provide activities over the course of the month.  It’s great that there are four separate segments, and they are even packaged separately for ease of use.

The next theme is:

F is for Frog!
