Allure Beauty Box August 2015 Subscription Box Review #thebeautybox

Allure Beauty Box is a beauty subscription that sends 5 deluxe samples – makeup, skin, hair, accessories, and fragrance.  Samples are chosen by Allure magazine editors. The new name is confusing, because what’s now known as Allure Beauty Thrills was formerly the Allure Beauty Box. This box was formerly managed by Beauty Bar, but no more.

There’s a mini magazine in every box and it’s very editorial – the Allure editors pick every product and give tips on use and why they like it. Or why you might not. The mini-mag is exactly the same as it was before. Instead of a code to Beauty Bar, there’s now an offer included. This month was enter a giveaway and too boring to photograph.

Eau Thermale Avène Cleanance Gel Soapless Cleanser ($2.50) This is for oily/combo skin and was in my July Ipsy bag. I’ll pass this one along too.

Salma Hayek Nuance Anti-Aging Cream ($6.29) This is actually a full-size mini product (they sell it in a larger size but also this size) and I have used it before. It’s good for moisture without being too oily around the eyes. The Nuance line is a good line. Selma Hayek was on the cover, so that was a good match. But it’s not something I would choose over my fancies. I’ll take it with me when I travel.

Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Push-Up Liner  ($3.60) I’m just not a fan of this liner sample. I hear it’s the #1 returned item at Sephora, too. To be fair, the editors gave their tips for using it, but I haven’t had success with this product.

Allure & Butter London Nail Lacquer – Violet’s Revenge ($7.50) This is a fun polish mini in a great color! A nice electric purple. You can view the whole Arm Candy Set at Sephora.

Malin + Goetz Peppermint Shampoo ($2.50) Well, I hadn’t tried this fragrance before but between Birchbox and Birchbox Man, I’m pretty sure I’ve now had the whole line!

Bumble and Bumble Grooming Creme ($3) I do like grooming cremes because sometimes conditioner just doesn’t work right in my hair. So I’ll use this when my hair is feeling too heavy to condition or too dry after conditioning. But just a weensy bit!

I was really somewhat bored with the August box. The value was around $25 which was only ok for me. No special offer, and I think this box was just missing value and a really wow product. I wish we’d instead received one of those new colored Benefit Mascaras! I think that would have turned this box around!
