As I mentioned in an update to the Popsugar + CFDA Spoilers post last night, Popsugar is offering refunds (this will likely never happen again!) on boxes returned unopened. You must contact them to receive your return label, which you can do on their website through your account. Here’s the note I received.

Hi Brandy,

Thank you for your feedback. In this case, we are offering the option for customers to return complete and unused boxes for a full refund. The refund will be issued once the box has been received by the 27th of May.

We have attached a complimentary prepaid return label to send the box back to us. Please let us know if there is anything else we can address or assist with.

I am returning mine. It’s not worth the review. They missed the mark in a serious way on multiple fronts and I’m very happy to see them accept returns on this box. I think they need to rethink their curation strategy. A trunk of relatively inexpensive items from many (actually) upcoming designers – including beach towels with a great design, etc, would have been very welcome.  I don’t think that the average Popsugar purchaser wants a box full of really expensive versions of what you might get in a regular box. We don’t want things that are expensive – we want new, different, unusual, and sometimes that does equal expensive. (Also, can we just wind back the clock to that Fall 2013 Special Edition box?)

FYI – half the proceeds (which means the profits, not the cost of the box) were to be donated to the CFDA Foundation, which funds various charitable activities (including both typical charitable events as well as their upcoming designer programs).  If you’re returning the box, you might consider a small donation to their current call for donations for rebuilding activities in Nepal. Donate directly to the Nepal Earthquake Fund here.

I will still happily purchase and review the Summer Limited Edition box, which goes on sale later today, likely around noon. It’s $95 less than this box was and likely to be a better value proposition.

Thank you so much for this post. I ordered the box as well and have not yet received it. I sent them an email requesting the return label and hopefully I can get a refund as well. For me this is the second time one of the really high end boxes felt over-valued and poorly misrepresented (the other was the 2014 Neiman Marcus Box). After the Neiman Marcus box I opted not to get any more LE Popsugar boxes until I saw an improvement. The $100 boxes so far have been just fine, so I decided to take a gamble because I really wanted a “fashion” box. Clearly I once again made the wrong choice. I hope I can get a refund. These folks really need to look at the Rachel Zoe box. For $100 it was much, much better than this and felt a lot more “fashion” oriented even with some beauty products mixed in.

Really I am totally fixated on the Fall Style Special Edition from 2013. Didn’t hurt that it also had Rachel Zoe jewelry in it (one of the few rings I actually wear!). That was an amazing box, full of style. I don’t know if they are just overthinking things, going and buying cheap stuff instead of negotiating deals, who knows. I can’t even get my head around the fact that there weren’t any prints!

That Fall box was my very first Popsugar box. I got that one even before I signed up for a monthly box. I am actually wearing that Rachel Zoe ring right now. I really loved the Holiday box they had that same year as well. What I’m really shocked by is the Marc by Marc Jacobs cuff…that label is now defunct and apparently those bracelets are all over TJ Maxx at bargain basement prices. It’s like someone just raided some leftover cabinet of junk, threw in some overpriced earrings that probably cost about $30 to make and sent it out to subscribers. It’s so sad because there are probably a ton of up and coming designers that would love to have made a piece especially for this box and would have done so at a substantial discount. Instead someone dusted off a box in the back of a warehouse, grabbed random items and send it out.

Good point and I got the Resort Box and was beyond pleased. Maybe this was just one of those little wrinkles that they quickly ironed out and it will be over the top awesome from here on out.

Makes me NOT want to purchase the LE Summer Box just b/c I am worried it will be deceitfully valued. 🙁 usually PopSugar impresses me. I didn’t fet this one b/c of the HUGE price tag and now I’m glad I didn’t just give in and fork out the dough.

I still bought the summer box. Whatever I cherish from the LE boxes is usually well over the cost of the box!

What really pisses me off is their adamant refusal to admit their mistakes and own them. They unethically (and I believe fraudulently) had the earring designer increase the price only to then have it lowered again (who does this?? I’m assuming someone mentioned fraud to them which is why the price was lowered back down). They also stated (in comments on their FB page) that they spent an enormous amount of time on curation and believe it was a wonderful box full of must-have items and luxury products. They are accepting refunds because they knew people had grounds to dispute the charge on their credit card. Each time a charge is disputed (and is successful) it lowers some “score” or “rating” related to their standing with Visa, Mastercard, etc. and they incur some type of penalty I was told this info by my credit union rep.

I totally agree. I rarely have to do chargebacks – but I have done them with Escape Monthly, and Starbucks of all places (they keep confirming that they’ve removed all items from the subscription, but continue to charge/send). I know when I’m in the right and I absolutely use it. I have been using my Amazon Visa for all of my boxes, but I’m going to switch PSMH back to Amex. I hope they can learn some lessons from this rather than just sweeping it under the rug.
