Play! by Sephora is a monthly subscription box that brings only the best and exclusive Sephora beauty and makeup samples. The subscription costs $10 per month, and you’ll get 5 deluxe beauty products, playlists, a fragrance bonus item, plus coupons you can use when you visit in-store.
Your subscription also entitles you to PLAY! Date meetups if your store participates. I don’t even have a Sephora (not even a JCP one) but this box totally excites me even without those experiences. I love the high-end brands every month for just $10.
When you remove all the paper, you are left with this playful pouch from Sephora.
That little card is a PLAY! Pass that will get you 50 extra Beauty Insider points with a purchase from the box, in-store only. You can also get a complimentary mini makeover!
The info card has a really cute illustration of this month’s theme and a lot of helpful tips on skincare and makeup.
This month’s theme is Beauty Boardwalk!
This fold-out poster shows a list of all the items included in this box plus beauty trivia and tips. You can access all of the information and also watch the videos right on the Sephora site or use the app to scan the sheet for more info!
The pouch is really cute! It’s hot hot hot like the summer!
Everything in my box! See the spoilers for all the variations here.
Marajo Hair Care Nourishing Cleansing Creme ($0.81) It’s a paraben-free, moisturizing hair wash that eliminates frizz and volumizes without dragging. The main ingredient is Pracaxi, a “miracle oil” from Brazil. The formula is ideal whether for straight, wavy, curly, or coiled hair.
Marajo Hair Care Deep Treatment Butter ($1.31) To pair with the cleansing creme is this luxurious deep treatment butter. It has a blend of nutrient-rich butter and botanical oils, which hydrates, repairs, and adds shine for a healthy-looking hair. The hair butter is pretty lightweight. It’s non-greasy too, which is always an important factor for me when considering creams for hair.
SOL De Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream ($10) It’s a fast absorbing body cream that tightens and softens your skin. This product is so good it has been featured many times in different subscription boxes for this month. It just means this is an ultimate summer product and it’s a welcome addition to my skincare loot anytime.
It is pronounced as “boom boom” even though it is spelled as Bum Bum. The formula includes a Brazilian blend of Amazonian plants. Just massage this in a circular motion to promote circulation and recommended to use in areas that needed tightness like the buttocks, legs, tummy, and arms.
It smells super yummy, plus it doesn’t leave any sticky residue. Aside from dryness, it also targets the skin’s dullness, uneven texture, and loss of firmness and elasticity.
Living Proof Nourishing Styling Cream ($4.56) Ideal for medium to thick hair, this styling cream helps eliminate frizz by blocking humidity. It keeps your hair nourished and more manageable. You can apply it on clean, damp hair from roots to ends. For best results, it is suggested that you style your hair with heat. It’s a bonus that it smells good too!
Clinique Makeup Remover ($4.56) Non-irritating and non-stinging, this makeup remover for the eyes easily dissolves waterproof and long-wearing makeup without tugging the skin.
It’s suitable for contact lens wearers. The formula is also free of parabens, sulfates, and phthalates.
Too Faced Melted Matte Long Wear Lipstick ($5.34) It’s a creamy and well-pigmented liquid matte lipstick. It doesn’t dry out the lips and it feels lightweight too.
Queen B is a soft mauve shade. It has a no-sting plumping and smoothing effect. Packed with antioxidants, vitamin E, and hyaluronic plumpers, it moisturizes and makes your lips soft and kissable. It’s also free from gluten, parabens, sulfates, and phthalates.
I love the unique packaging too. The doe foot applicator is smooth on the lips. After application, just patiently wait for it to dry so that it will be transfer-proof.
The swatch looks amazing. It has a full coverage, and it’s bold but not over the top.
Cover FX Perfect Setting Powder ($3.50) Getting a nice airbrush finish is easier with this setting powder. It’s an ultra lightweight and translucent loose powder to set the makeup for an all-day wear. It will not add color to your skin or overpower the foundation. Instead, it will flaunt other makeup’s effects. It has light diffusing particles that blur and create the airbrush effect without making it appear chalky or dry.
It suits all skin tones and I appreciate the easy-to-flip plastic covering in the packaging for hygienic purposes. It is formulated without talc, parabens, fragrance, gluten and mineral oil. It is also clinically-tested and vegan.
They gave mostly hair care products this month mixed with some skincare and makeup products. This curation was pretty much a miss for my my fine non-frizzy hair (which is also reflected in my profile). The setting powder didn’t make me oily and has a matte finish for hours. The liquid lipstick is a good everyday wear shade. I don’t even need touch ups because it is long wearing and very pigmented. The makeup remover for the eyes was so easy to use also. It removes the gunk quickly without me needing to wipe my eyes too much. So, overall even these products are just samples, there were no fillers – I just wish there was a focus on hair volume for my box. The total value this month was about $30.
