Every quarter Dermy Doc Box sends a box filled with dermatologist-approved products to go with the season. The Fall 2024 box featured three products with skin-friendly peptides, an exfoliating scalp care duo, a hydrating face mist, and a smooth satin pillowcase. There were seven items total, although two of the products go together nicely. Read my review below and learn more about the skincare items that were sent this season!

Aevene Cleanance Acne Medicated Clearing Gel Cleanser ($21) The Dermy Doc knows that all of the items in the box may not fit all our individual beauty needs and since I have dry, aging skin I have no need for an anti-acne cleanser. This gel cleanser is fragrance-free and has salicylic acid to help get rid of excess oil, blackheads, and whiteheads. It can be applied twice a day to damp skin on the face, chest, or back and would also work as a second cleanser following makeup removal. I am passing it along to my daughter!
Joaquina Botanica Hydrating Essence ($56) is a refreshing face mist that has a base of water, rose water, glycerin, plant extracts, and hyaluronic acid. It is similar to a hydrosol, but with slightly more parts to help increase moisture in the skin. There are two ways that I use this product. I spray this onto my face and then quickly follow with a face oil to lock in moisture. I also use this midday, I just spray it all over my face and it doesn’t bother my makeup at all, the mist is fine and evaporates quickly. It smells like a dried rose!
Medik8 Liquid Peptides Hydrating Peptide Serum ($64) There are three products in this quarter’s box that have peptides: the mist shown above, the treatment shown below, and the treatment shown here! Peptides may help support the skin’s barrier and protect it from pollution, bacteria, and other external aggressors and there are 10 different types in this serum alone, plus it has hyaluronic acid to help increase moisture. This gel serum may help lessen the appearance of wrinkles and leave the skin hydrated, supposedly in just 7 days! I applied the gel to my face and neck after cleansing and after it dried I followed with my usual moisturizer. The gel wasn’t tacky once dried and it had no fragrance and also no scent that I could detect. I look forward to using it to see if it can help my wrinkles look less pronounced.
Indeed Laboratories Retinol Reface Skin Resurfacer ($24.99) Here’s another peptide product, but this time it’s paired with retinol. It’s supposed to reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles (while the product above may help reduce deeper creases). It’s also supposed to brighten uneven skin tone. It seems to be for most skin types: sensitive, aging, acne-prone, and congested. It may be used every other night to start and can be increased to nightly if your skin has no objections. It’s free from fragrance and doesn’t have much of a scent at all. It has dimethicone so it leaves behind a smooth feeling once applied to skin. Make sure to use this at night and as always, wear a product with SPF during the day, which I hope everyone is already doing but retinol may make skin even more sensitive to the sun.
Common Care Exfoliating Scalp Scrub ($9.99) and Exfoliating Shampoo Brush ($15.99) The idea behind this duo is that the scalp brush is supposed to enhance the stimulating and exfoliating powers of the scalp scrub, but since I have a sensitive scalp I tried them on separate days. I used the shampoo brush first. I simply applied shampoo to my hair and scalp and lathered up like normal, then I made small circles on my scalp with the brush, picking up and moving it around after a few seconds, for about one minute total. Then I rinsed and got on with my usual routine. It was an odd feeling but not too rough, and of course you can adjust your pressure to whatever you prefer. I will use it once or twice a week. I have a sensitivity to perfume in hair products so I started by applying the scrub to the back of my head and when I didn’t feel any exfoliating going on (even though the scrub itself has some grittiness to it), I decided to not apply it all over. It certainly lathered well but it left my hair tangled (but my hair tangles easily anyways). The scrub smells like sweet lemons.
Dermy Doc Satin Pillowcase ($19.99) There’s usually one item each box that’s long-lasting, and some of the past products have included an insulated makeup bag, hanging toiletry bag, rotating skincare organizer, and more. This time around it’s a nylon satin pillowcase that fits a queen-sized pillow. I’ve received similar pillowcases in boxes before but I want to say thank you to Dermy Doc Box for sending a white case, it matches my sheets! Satin pillowcases are supposed to reduce friction on the hair so it won’t break and may end up being less frizzy. It’s also supposed to be less likely to leave lines on the face compared to cotton pillowcases, and thankfully this is machine washable too.
I look forward to receiving the latest Dermy Doc Box every season, it’s always filled with so many helpful products and it has introduced me to skincare items and brands that are new to me, which makes it fun too. One of the items I’m so happy to start using is the satin pillowcase, I’m thrilled that it doesn’t clash with my bedding! I also liked the Joaquina Botanica hydrating spray, I spritz it on my face every so often. The Common Core shampoo brush is in my shower so I can remember to use it every few days, but the scrub will be passed along to someone who doesn’t mind fragrance in their hair care products. I’m also passing along the Avene acne cleanser simply because it’s not a match for my skin type, but my daughter will gladly take it off my hands. I am now using the Medik8 peptide serum daily and the Indeed Labs retinol gel every few days, and I was so glad to see that they are fragrance-free. The value for the Fall 2024 Dermy Doc Box was around $212!
