I brought the Aminnah Rose Quartz Sugar Scrub ($25) into the shower to give it a try. It’s pretty, and it sort of looks like a tub of pink frosting! This exfoliating scrub is made with rose water, a blend of oils and butters including mango, shea, cocoa, and coconut, plus fragrance and color. It’s pretty generously sized too. I placed some on my arms and gave it a good scrub. It lightly exfoliated, while the emollients kept my skin from feeling irritated. It didn’t rinse off fully, I had a coating on my skin that was left behind by those oils, yet I don’t think it made my skin feel silky or smooth, just coated. It left behind a scent that was a combo of juicy rosy musk.

Kat Burki Rose Hip Intense Recovery Eye Serum ($135) has a different look on the brand’s website, they must have rolled out new packaging in the past few weeks but the ingredients look the same. It has arnica and calendula waters, cica, aloe, glycerin, niacinamide, and more and it gets its scent from essential oils and those waters. My only problem with it is the pump, it squirts out product in a stream that ends up all over my sink, shirt, etc., so now I have to practically close my hand over the nozzle to catch it (maybe that problem has been fixed with the new packaging?). This light colored serum is supposed to fight fine lines, puffiness, and dark circles, and I have all of the above! It didn’t take long for my skin to absorb the serum, and I experienced no irritation so I will continue to use it before bed and in the morning before I apply makeup.

Pinky B Beauty Had Me At Illuminating Primer ($21) Primers don’t work for me (my makeup stays on without additional help) but as always, I gave it a try. This one is supposed to not only provide a smooth base but it may give skin a glow thanks to mica (although that effect disappeared as soon as I applied foundation). Some of the other ingredients include glycerin, dimethicone, titanium dioxide, squalane, niacinamide, bamboo extract, and hyaluronic acid. I was thrilled that it had no added fragrance, and it didn’t have any scent at all. Apply after cleansing and moisturizing, then wait a few minutes before applying makeup.

JLo Beauty That Star Filter Complexion Booster in Rose Gold ($39) I’ve received several products from JLo’s beauty line and I wouldn’t buy them myself, but I still try them with an open mind. This booster can be mixed into foundation or moisturizer and then spread all over the face, or you can apply it as-is, to the face, shoulders, décolletage, and more. It can also be used as highlighter, which is how I chose to use it. I placed some on the back of my hand and then dipped a makeup brush in it before I applied it to my nose, cupid’s bow, cheeks, and forehead, for a dewy glow. I blended it gently but I really can’t see it on my face at all. Where did it go? Maybe it wore off? Swatched below.

IL Makiage Mineral Baked Blush in Vogue ($54) I was excited to receive this blush in my box since I’ve been happy with this brand’s eyeshadows. The color is described as dusty rose and it’s darker than what I would choose for myself, so I applied it with a light hand and blended it out with a makeup brush. Luckily, it was easy to blend and it was fine for my complexion! Swatched below.

Swatched on top is the JLo Beauty That Star Filter in Rose Gold, including some blended out, and underneath that is the IL Makiage Mineral Baked Blush in Vogue.

The assortment of products that I received in my September BoxyCharm by Ipsy box were almost all for my face, with three of them being makeup or almost makeup/makeup adjacent. The Aminnah Rose Quartz Body Scrub was the only item for the body, and it smelled nice but left a coating on my skin after rinsing. I was happy to receive the pricey Kat Burki eye serum – even if it doesn’t preform a miracle, I like to take care of the sensitive skin under my eyes so I’ll continue to use it. I have no use for the Pinky B Beauty primer, but I have nothing against the formula itself, so I’m sure a friend will love to take it off my hands! JLO Beauty is just ok, and I liked the color Rose Gold, but I was super excited to try the IL Makiage mineral blush, it worked well and stayed in place all day. The value for my box combo was around $274!
