Instead of the pamphlet and the hand written note, I got another bookmark. This side also has ways to stay in touch via social media .

Quotes and a picture of the book are found on the back.

Always Watching by Chevy Stevens ($11.15)

She helps people put their demons to rest.

But she has a few of her own…

In the lockdown ward of a psychiatric hospital, Dr. Nadine Lavoie is in her element. She has the tools to help people, and she has the desire―healing broken families is what she lives for. But Nadine doesn’t want to look too closely at her own past because there are whole chunks of her life that are black holes. It takes all her willpower to tamp down her recurrent claustrophobia, and her daughter, Lisa, is a runaway who has been on the streets for seven years.

When a distraught woman, Heather Simeon, is brought into the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit after a suicide attempt, Nadine gently coaxes her story out of her―and learns of some troubling parallels with her own life. Digging deeper, Nadine is forced to confront her traumatic childhood, and the damage that began when she and her brother were brought by their mother to a remote commune on Vancouver Island. What happened to Nadine? Why was their family destroyed? And why does the name Aaron Quinn, the group’s leader, bring complex feelings of terror to Nadine even today?

And then, the unthinkable happens, and Nadine realizes that danger is closer to home than she ever imagined. She has no choice but to face what terrifies her the most…and fight back, in Always Watching by Chevy Stevens.

Sometimes you can leave the past, but you can never escape.

“This was one tough book to put down…Highly recommended.” ―Suspense Magazine

This book is so interesting and I cannot wait to read it. It looks like one that is going to keep me from my normal house hold duties. I apologize to my family now for the cereal dinners that will be happening while I’m reading.

Blue Labyrinth by Preston & Child ($18.36)

Special Agent Pendergast-one of the most original, compelling characters in all of contemporary fiction-returns in Preston and Child’s new exhilarating novel BLUE LABYRINTH

A long-buried family secret has come back to haunt Special Agent Aloysius Pendergast.

It begins with murder. One of Pendergast’s most implacable, most feared enemies is found on his doorstep, dead. Pendergast has no idea who is responsible for the killing, or why the body was brought to his home. The mystery has all the hallmarks of the perfect crime, save for an enigmatic clue: a piece of turquoise lodged in the stomach of the deceased.

The gem leads Pendergast to an abandoned mine on the shore of California’s Salton Sea, which in turn propels him on a journey of discovery deep into his own family’s sinister past. But Pendergast learns there is more at work than a ghastly episode of family history: he is being stalked by a subtle killer bent on vengeance over an ancient transgression. And he soon becomes caught in a wickedly clever plot, which leaves him stricken in mind and body, and propels him toward a reckoning beyond anything he could ever have imagined….

Holy cow…it’s such a wonderfully written book and I had a hard time putting it down. In about 15 minutes I was able to get through 4 chapters and could have spent all day reading on the couch. This will be the first book I finish in 2017.

Every time Bookcase.Club comes I’m so excited to see what amazing new treasures I’m going to be blessed with. I love that books come packaged tightly packaged with little to no filler paper. As much as I miss the hand written notes from months past I am enjoying the bookmark so I don’t ruin the jackets to hold my place. I love that I haven’t come across the same authors in any of the boxes and that even thought they are all the genre they don’t repeat story lines. I find that having a subscription box has broadened my horizons in the reading world, I don’t just binge read anymore.
