Birchbox is a beauty sampling subscription service that sends 5 new items each month so you can try before you buy. Birchbox is $10 a month and you can choose a monthly sample during selection time, let Birchbox decide, or pick a pre-curated box. This is a review of a regular, non-curated box with a sample choice. How well did it match the profile that I created when I signed up? Read on to find out!

DEAL: Birchbox is offering a free Smith & Cult The Tainted Lip Stained Flatte in Kissing Tiny Flowers with any women’s Birchbox subscription, while supplies last! Just use code SMITH&CULT at checkout!

This month, Birchbox sent products to help us kick off the holidays and I received my box before the holiday rush!

The information card gives brief details on each item as well as the price if you were to buy the full size.

You can visit Birchbox.com/MyBox to easily see the details of your box, which I recommend because sometimes they have videos on the item product pages which I find useful.

I found 5 products in my box – one was my sample choice, one was a sample choice that I didn’t choose, and one was in the curated box. I wish Birchbox would stop sending sample choice items I didn’t pick, since I didn’t pick it on purpose. Plus, I would be disappointed if I bought the curated box separately only to find my regular box contained some of those items too.

Everything in my November box!

Too Cool For School All-In-One Egg Mellow Cream ($10.23) is a moisturizer and Korean beauty product, which are always fun to try! You can use this like a regular moisturizer, apply under eyes, or just spackle it on thickly for an overnight mask. I thought the scent was a tad too strong so a neck cream for day use it will be!

Tocca Emilia Eau de Parfum ($2.16) is a floral fruity scent inspired by an adventuress and features notes of fig, clementine, and geranium.

I was unable to pick up any of those aforementioned notes – instead, I found it had a fresh green note mingled with white florals and maybe a hint of ocean-air sea saltiness. Maybe not the most original scent, but office-appropriate and not overly strong, plus it faded within a couple of hours.

Marcelle Hydra-C Eye Contour Gel Cream ($5.40) Wow, this sample is tiny, I guess it’s about 1/2 a teaspoon, total! The full-sized container comes with a tip that leaves a depuffing and cooling sensation, but I used my finger instead. Olive oil, witch hazel, and petroleum jelly are in this mix that may help send those undereye bags packing.

label.m Diamond Dust Leave-in Crème ($7) My biggest pet peeve with Birchbox is that they send moisturizing products for my baby fine hair, which just drags it down. This is a leave-in product and I sprayed it twice in my palms before applying to my hair. The scent is nice, strong at first, but it fades quickly. It actually smells a lot like a perfume from Tocca! Champagne, black diamond dust, and pearl powder leave hair soft, shiny, and protected from thermal damage.

Stila HUGE Extreme Lash Mascara ($10.45) was my sample choice this month!

According to Birchbox, “just one coat gives you a major boost in volume, curl, and length.”

I liked it, it did look like I had more lashes. I did a side-by-side comparison with my Benefit mascara and thought the Stila side looked clumpy and not as long as the Benefit side.

I am pretty happy with my November Birchbox. I like perfume and am always excited to try a new scent, and the mascara will get used while the moisturizer will help keep my neck soft. The underye cream will be gone after another use or two, and the hair cream will be passed to one of my daughters. Birchbox sends out many box variations each month and the value of my box overall was about $35.24, not bad for a $10 box! I rated my products on the Birchbox website to see if that helps me get selections that work for me in future boxes.
