GlobeIn Artisan Gift Box is a monthly subscription box full of artisan goods from producers all over the world. GlobeIn sources its products exclusively from non-profits, artisan collectives and other organizations that ensure a fair wage is paid to the artisans and farmers.
The theme for January was BATHE.
This month we invite you to celebrate the bath. So much more than just a perfunctory routine, bathing is one of our most intimate rituals of relaxation and renewal. For many of us who lead busy lives, the shower is the one sure place to which we are able to make a daily retreat, and where we may tend, gently, to the rejuvenation of both body and mind.
We hope that January’s collection of products, handcrafted from some of nature’s own most luxurious materials, inspire you to indulge in this most precious of time-outs and enjoy all the softness, smoothness, and scents that come with it.
The information booklet comes with a curator’s letter detailing how you might use each item to relax and rejuvenate!
The booklet contains the story of each artisan featured in the box.
Everything inside is contained inside a handwoven palm leaf basket.
Everything in this month’s box!
Hand Towel (Izmir, Turkey) ($12) This hand towel is a pretty sage green. I didn’t expect it at all but one side has terry loops making it extra absorbent! The towel is about 19×30 and we deployed it in our downstairs bathroom right away! It’s such a nice large size.
Pestemal Bath Towel (Denizli, Turkey) ($25) This 100% Turkish peshtemal towel fits right in with all our others – after they appeared in Popsugar I bought bunches of them – one in each color I could find. I was happy to get a color I didn’t have – I love colorcoding towels so my kids never complain about cooties.
This towel is about 67×39 and will cover your whole body even if you aren’t a little person. To see even more about the towel, read our January 2016 GlobeIn Benefit Basket review.
Alaffia Lemongrass Citrus African Black Soap (Togo) ($4.99)
Alaffia Shea & Red Palm Body Lotion (Togo) ($2)
I was amazed at the scents of these products – bright and citrusy! Alaffia uses its profits to improve maternal health in Togo and assist in the transportation needs of schoolchildren. The soap is made from natural African resources – palm kernel oil and shea butter. The lotion is quite light weight and perfect for post bath application. I love how the two scents coordinate.
The soap isn’t actually black! The palm kernel oil is cooked to the point of charcoal.
Silk Face Scrub (Bursa, Turkey) ($10?) This little pouch is made to skip over your fingers – rub it against your wet or damp face to naturally exfoliate your skin. It’s made from 100% raw silk and smells a little funky but you totally have to try it – it works! I was a total skeptic but my skin felt really soft. I am not sure about the value of this item – you can purchase actual silkworm cocoons (weird) for about $4 or a larger mitt for $20-30, so I went with $10.
GlobeIn Signature Palm Leaf Basket from Oaxaca, Mexico ($12) The familiar lidded basket is back! Last month’s squared-off-corner basket had no lid. I like both – maybe they could alternate between them!
This was such a thoughtful and useful assortment this month – and it’s still available until they sell out. The value was about $66 and I truly love everything (and have used each item already!). This box made me want to take an actual bath – but I loved that there wasn’t anything tub-specific in the box.
