My Pretend Place is a quarterly themed pretend play and dress up subscription box for children aged 3-6. NEW: Now you can select the themes for your subscription! Visit the subscription page, pick the Dress-Up box, and select the Build Your Own tab. You’ll be able to see all the available themes. You can see what’s in the box on the Pretend Play Packages page.
The quarterly dress-up kit comes in a big box, with everything tucked safely inside.
My son just can’t wait to open this box! He loves dress-up play and was so super excited to get a new costume.
Each kit has an envelope containing some bonus decorations and a handle for transforming the box into a reusable suitcase in line with the quarter’s theme. This makes a nice storage container for the costume if you don’t have an established dress up closet.
We chose the Head Chef for this box. You can purchase the boxes individually and see the other themes here.
The box contains a letter to your child setting the scene. This letter was from Chef Ede Uveg, the Director of the MPP Culinary School. She invites your child to join the program and start learning the basics of cooking!
The dress-up item is a Chef Role Play Set from Melissa & Doug ($22.57). It included wooden utensils and a measuring spoon set. My little chef couldn’t wait to cook.
The box included The Donut Chef by Bob Staake ($7.99) an adorable illustrated story about big city Donut Wars! We have had this box a few days and this book has been requested before bed time every day!
The book has whimsically-styled illustrations and a light and easy storyline. The rhyme and rhythm of the story were delightful and the subject matter was spot on – detailing the preparing and making donuts, the chef keeping his workplace clean, and all the fantastical donut creations! It’s a must read!
Melissa & Doug Felt Food Pizza Set ($15.48) This adorable set is probably the third or fourth pizza set we have and my kids loved it. Pizza (pretend or not) just never gets old. What a great choice for the box (especially since you can practice fractions as well as pretend with it!).
And the box is a pizza box!
My son demanded to put on the outfit immediately and wouldn’t take anything out of my office. It had to be right then. He mixed his dough (and pretend cleaned the spoon).
He got to work making several variations of pizza.
He absolutely loves his pizza!
Melissa & Doug Make-a-Meal Sticker Pad ($6) This set comes with sticker pads and place set cards to pretend play with lots of meals. There are 15 place cards and 225 stickers of so many cuisines!
This is another fun item and he used it immediately. The next morning we found that our daughter made a few place settings too.
So many delicious choices.
Our son was totally into this box, which is perfect for all kids that enjoy pretend play. Everything was high quality and engaging and has already provided hours of family fun! I really loved the accessories and bookthis month and my son had a total blast. The total value of the first month’s box is about $52, which is about the cost of the box, which includes free shipping, and 2 more months of activities!
Month 2:
The subsequent months (month 2 + 3) arrive in envelopes to your home. They were provided to me all at once for review purposes – but they’re best when you get them in the next month because they remind the kids to play with their costumes throughout the quarter! We do find that they are fun long beyond that (the kids are always pulling out their play gear to have pretend fun!).
Month 2 included a no-cook playdough activity, another fun letter from the Chef, and a MyPlate sticker set!
Month 3 included a final celebratory letter from Chef Uveg as well as a Star Cookies recipe.
Your kids also get a certificate of completion at the end of their “culinary school.”
I think this is a really fun box and an awesome gift for kids!
