Icon Box is the latest box from Ipsy and it replaces the previous Glam Bag X and BoxyCharm Luxe. It’s a quarterly upgrade and comes with 8 full-sized products worth up to $350. Members get to choose three of their items from a few different options and this upgrade replaces your usual monthly bag for an additional cost. This season, the box was curated by makeup artist Patrick Starrr, and I received two products from his makeup line! Some of the other goodies I received were a sunscreen that takes me back to high school, spot-reducing moisturizer, and more. Check out what I received below!

Vacation SPF30 Baby Oil ($22) I remember applying baby oil all over my skin way back in the day and then I would sit outside on the patio furniture and try to get tan. Sadly, I now have a lot of sun spots all over but thankfully I finally figured out that sunscreen is the way to go. This product is supposed to mimic that old-fashioned trend (it smells like baby oil) but it has SPF 30 protection to help reduce skin cancer and protect from some of the damage that comes from UV exposure. This isn’t water-resistant so if you’re swimming or sweating, use a different product.

Dermalactives Purifying Cleansing Gel ($62.50) I’m always wary of companies that say their product is safe for sensitive skin but then add fragrance, that’s a no-no! Anyways, this cleanser looks like it’s a martini shaker which was kind of funny for no particular reason. It’s also heavy glass and has a small pump applicator, you have to pump 4-5 times to get enough product out. It was a creamy cleanser that left my face clean but the scent, while pleasant, was rather strong (at least to me).

The POREfessional Speedy Smooth Quick Smoothing Pore Mask ($39) FYI this product didn’t have a seal under the cap, I’m assuming that’s how all of them were sent as it was a common complaint on the Ipsy website. Clay masks aren’t the right thing for my dry face, and this one is supposed to absorb excess oil, refine pores, and smooth the skin. It’s a quick drying mask and should take no more than five minutes to dry once applied. I placed some on my hand and it had a perfumey floral fragrance and didn’t feel gritty, and it sure did dry quickly.

Byroe New York Basil Dark Spot Correcting Cream ($85) I thought this was a spot treatment but it’s a spot-reducing moisturizer! It can be applied twice a day and may help improve the look of blemishes, dark spots, and melasma. It has basil extract, vitamin K, and plant extracts and while fragrance is listed last, I couldn’t detect any scent at all, and it doesn’t smell like pesto in case you were wondering. It is light green in color and didn’t feel greasy after applying.

Kosas GrowPotion Fluffy Brow + Lash Boosting Serum ($48) I think my brows are ok, I usually add a little color to make them show up, but I guess I will start using this to see if they grow in thicker. I was confused by the before and after pictures on the brand’s website, it simply looked like the models stopped having their brows waxed/threaded/plucked. It has a strong scent but no fragrance added. You apply it nightly and it can be used on brows and lashes, but I will be using it exclusively on my brows. I would suggest making sure it gets down to the skin of the brows, I can’t imagine putting it on hair alone would help anything.

One/Size Lip Snatcher Hydrating Liquid Lipstick & Lip Gloss Duo ($28) Patrick Starrr was this month’s curator and I was excited to see which of his products I would receive! I ended up with the duo Be About It, which has a matte warm tan liquid lip color on one side, and a pearlescent rosy pink gloss on the other. Actually, it’s Ipsy who said it was tan, the One Size website says “matte warm nude”. You can wear either color alone or pair them or add lip liner, it’s up to you. However, the matte shade is ugly. I can’t imagine it looking good on anyone, but it looks like I applied dark orangey concealer on my lips. It dried down to along-lasting finish. I like the gloss though, it’s a beautiful shimmery shade. It felt good on my lips and not super sticky. Swatched below.

One/Size Point Made Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner Pen ($19) I received a second One Size product, a brown liquid liner! I don’t do liquid liner, but I still tried it out and I found that it was much more forgiving than harsh black, and the formula worked well too. Swatched below.

Fenty Beauty The Fill: Semi Matte Lipstick ($20) and Refillable Icon Case in Matte Black ($12) Now we’re on to Fenty, a brand I’ve been happy with in the past. This product came with a refillable case and a lipstick in the shade Motha Luva, which is described as light pink nude (not again!). I had to watch YouTube videos to figure out how to put the lipstick in the case, and then you have to take it back out of the case to apply to the lips. The texture is semi-matte and it went on patchy, and the color wasn’t flattering at all (I’m not a fan of nudes, ever). It felt fine on my lips, it doesn’t dry down, and it faded gradually. Swatched below.

Swatched above are the Fenty lipstick, Patrick Starrr eyeliner, then the gloss and lipstick duo which is also from Patrick Starrr.

I was happy to try some beauty products from this quarter’s ICON curator, Patrick Starrr! I thought the quality of his products was great, and although the lipstick color wasn’t for me, the gloss was beautiful. The only other makeup product I received was yet another lipstick, this time from Fenty, and again, I wasn’t impressed with the color, but then I’m not a fan of the nude lip. The rest of the box contained all kinds of skincare such as a retro baby-oil scented sunscreen, a brow and lash serum, cleanser, mask, and moisturizer. I would have preferred a perfume for one of those items but for some reason I never seem to receive fragrance. This box is sent for review so I didn’t get to choose my products and it wasn’t curated to my profile, but I still had a blast trying all of the goodies. The value for my box was around $335!

Below is the insert that was in the box!
