In crafting my spooky charcuterie board with Platterful’s October box, I was delighted to find a delightful assortment of premium ingredients. Despite not receiving the usual instructions in the box, a quick online search led us to a helpful video guide. With the large kit, which included two extra ingredients – Olli Salumeria Sopressata and Mackenzie Creamery Pumpkin Chevre – we embarked on assembling a board that would steal the spotlight.

Following the online video instructions, we transformed the Pumpkin Chevre into small pumpkins and the sliced Sopressata into salami roses, enhancing both the visual appeal and taste of our Halloween-themed charcuterie creation. We had two more cheeses to get creative with—the BelGioiso Aged Asiago became a spooky coffin, and the Smoked Bacon Gouda turned into a jack-o’-lantern. The mix of nutty and smoky flavors was so good that everyone wanted more.

Adding to the ensemble of our Halloween-themed charcuterie board is Giorgio’s Naturals Orange & Ginger Salami. Sliced into quarter-inch pieces, this citrusy delight was strategically woven around other elements on the board, creating a visually appealing and intricately designed masterpiece. The salami’s prominent orange notes added a refreshing and zesty kick, contributing a unique flavor profile that pleasantly contrasted with the savory and smoky tones of the other meats and cheeses. The result was not just a treat for the eyes but a burst of citrusy goodness that elevated the overall taste experience.

Next, let’s explore the crackers in our kit which complemented the savory delights perfectly. The Ines Rosales Original Sweet Olive Oil Crackers brought a delightful sweetness to the board, balancing the rich and savory notes of the meats and cheeses. Their light, crispy texture was a perfect canvas for the flavors to shine. On the other hand, the Primal Bakery Protein Crackers ($6.99) offered a hearty and protein-packed crunch, adding a savory dimension that paired exceptionally well with the bold flavors of the sopressata and aged Asiago. Together, these crackers provided a satisfying contrast and textural diversity, ensuring that every bite was a harmonious blend of flavors and textures.

Here are more ingredients that added variety to our charcuterie board! The Drybox Dried Turkish Figs lent a natural sweetness and chewy texture, creating a perfect contrast to the savory elements. Strategically placed, the Freestyle Snacks Gree Olives ($1.25) brought a briny kick and a pop of color, cutting through the richness of the meats and cheeses. To add a crunchy and smoky twist, we scattered the Clif Family Organic Smoked Spanish Pimenton Almonds ($9), infusing each bite with a satisfying crunch and subtle smokiness. They were also a part of the pumpkin-shaped goat cheese as stems!

The Just For Fun Part Waffle Cones are like small waffle cones filled with yummy milk chocolate, giving a nice crunch and a bit of sweetness to the mix. For a spooky touch, we used the Terrapin Ridge Farms Cranberry Relish With Grand Marnier ($4.32) as “blood” on the board, making it look cool for Halloween. To finish off the setup, we’ve got the Hilltop Apiaries Pumpkin Spice Whipped Honey ($11) and Mezquite Honey ($5.99 / 11 oz.), perfect for dipping and adding a sweet touch that goes really well with the meats and cheeses.

Platterful’s thoughtful additions extended beyond just delicious ingredients. The small dipping bowl proved to be a handy companion, perfectly sized for enjoying the honey varieties with ease. The honey dipper, a nifty little tool included, made drizzling honey a breeze, adding a touch of precision to the sweet experience. Additionally, the scoop provided a practical solution for arranging and presenting the charcuterie elements.

Platterful goes the extra mile by guiding you to the “Perfect Bite” of your charcuterie board. For this month, they suggest starting with a cracker at the bottom, then adding slices of orange and ginger salami, followed by smoked bacon gouda, a dollop of cranberry relish, and topping it off with a smoked Spanish pimenton almond. Plus, Platterful recommends pairing this spooky delight with a seasonal beer: Samuel Adams Octoberfest.

Platterful’s October box transformed my usual charcuterie game into a Halloween feast that dazzled both the eyes and taste buds. The ease of assembly, thanks to the online video instructions, made the creative process enjoyable for both seasoned hosts and charcuterie novices like me. While the inclusion of a printed instruction sheet would have been convenient, the overall experience was so engaging and delicious that it became a minor detail. The small dipping bowl, honey dipper, and scoop were practical additions that elevated the presentation. As someone who usually opts for convenience, this Platterful box struck the perfect balance between simplicity and creativity, making it a worthy investment for those looking to impress with minimal effort.
