Dermy Doc Box sends a box filled with dermatologist-approved products every quarter. The Summer 2023 box was all about sunscreen, and I couldn’t have been happier! There were six items total, including a tinted sunscreen, a powder with SPF, and even a sun visor. Read my review below and learn more about the products that were sent this season!

DEAL: Get $5 off your first box! Use coupon code HELLODERMY.

Dermy Doc Box Roll-Up Travel Visor ($25.99) This is a cute visor! Personally, I prefer something that also covers my scalp (I have thin hair that’s getting thinner with age and my scalp needs protection) but it is cute and I really like the adorable bow on the back. There’s an elastic band attached that makes it easy to secure the hat when it’s not in use and that means it takes up less room in a bag or suitcase.

La Roche-Posay Tinted Anthelios Light Fluid Sunscreen ($32.29, expires 09/2024) This is a lightweight mineral sunscreen that’s tinted and meant for all skin types including sensitive skin. The active ingredient is titanium dioxide to prevent burns but there’s also vitamin E (an antioxidant), iron oxides (for color, and from what I can tell, this is rust!), thermal spring water, and dimethicone. It slides on easily thanks to the dimethicone and gave only a hint of color to my face, I have light skin and it didn’t look dark or fake. I went over it with my usual powder foundation. I mentioned it to my dermatologist and she likes this brand and says the iron oxides are supposed to be good for the skin. Make sure to shake it really well before applying, there’s some sort of ball inside to mix it all up. Water resistant up to 40 minutes.

Brush On Block Translucent Mineral Powder Sunscreen ($34, expires 05/2025) This is a nifty product to have, especially when out and about. It has a makeup-type brush on one end, and a powdered mineral sunscreen inside a container at the other end. You twist the bottom part open and then you dab at your hairline, face, ears, or wherever you need some sunscreen and that’s it! This is meant especially for the face, hands, and neck but it can be applied to other body parts like the ears and hair part, which is how I used it, just before going to the pool. It’s water resistant up to 80 minutes and refillable. The powder is translucent and shouldn’t leave a cast on any skin tones, supposedly the natural oils of the body will help it blend in. The active ingredients are titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, making this a mineral sunscreen. The brush can and should be cleaned and you can purchase refill canisters for $20.

Glytone Hydra Lipid UV Sun Protection ($42, expires 10/2024 ) I’ve enjoyed using this mineral sunscreen lotion. It has both titanium dioxide and zinc oxide and is fragrance-free. Once I applied this to my face and rubbed it in for a few seconds I didn’t notice any white cast. It has hyaluronic acid and olive-derived squalane to increase moisture and reduce the look of fine lines. This lotion is best for everyday use but please use a water resistant product if you will be swimming or sweating.

Elta MD Skincare UV Stick Broad-Spectrum ($35, expires 11/2024) I like roll-on products for some of those small areas, like my ears or tops of my toes. This mineral sunscreen with zinc oxide is water resistant up to 80 minutes and has other skin-friendly ingredients like cocoa butter and shea butter. This goes on like a deodorant, you just roll it over the face, part, or wherever you need protection. It feels very emollient, like a rich body butter.

Coola Classic LipLux Organic Lip Balm ($9.60, expires 01/2025) Oh, I love this beautiful container, look at how cool this looks! Inside is sunscreen that you swipe on your lips and that is water resistant up to 80 minutes. This is a chemical sunscreen and there’s also other ingredients like those you might find in any lip balm: aloe, coconut oil, jojoba oil, and more. This goes on sheer and I didn’t detect much scent, but when I licked my lips it was a bit sweet. It made my lips feel smooth and not sticky or waxy, and I wore it to the pool to go swimming.

At some point in my life I started applying sunscreen on my face every morning, and I really wish I had started sooner (and I also wish I had used it on my arms, because you can tell a big difference between the two places, sooo many spots). The Summer 2023 Dermy Doc Box provided me with 5 different sunscreen options, plus a cute sun visor. I have sensitive skin and prefer fragrance-free stuff, especially for my face, and I didn’t have any problems with any of these items. You can tell the products were carefully curated, and nothing was expiring anytime soon, and in fact, the closest expiration is 09/24, more than a year away. I’m not sure if I have a favorite from this box, although I thought the Glytone was most similar to what I usually use, and the powder with brush is something I’ve always wanted to try. However, every item will be used up, and not one was a dud. The value for this box was around $180!

Here’s an opening picture. I placed the dissolvable packing peanuts in my compost pile.
