The January 2023 Vegancuts Beauty Box theme was Beauty Glee for 2023 and there were 5 items inside to help me kick off the new year with soft skin and hair. Vegancuts sends vegan and cruelty-free products and they offer a snack box too! See what I received in this month’s box below!

DEAL: Use the coupon code hellosub to get $5 off your first box on any Vegancuts subscription!   It can only be used once per customer, but it can be used on multiple subscriptions at once so long as they are in the same transaction.

The beauty items shipped in the same box as my snacks but they were placed in this reusable bag to keep them separate.

Raeka Peel Off Mask ($3 for similar item) I didn’t see this on the brand’s website but a similar item is on clearance for $3. In fact, it looks like the entire brand is having a relaunch – Raeka 2.0 coming soon. It says not to use on inflamed skin so I don’t think it would be appropriate to try as I have rosacea but I’m generally not a fan of peel off masks anyways but liked them maybe 30 years ago.

Authentic Beauty Concept Hair Mask ($11) Generally I avoid fragrance on my scalp but I decided to try this on the ends of my hair to see how it would perform, as I’m having trouble combing it out after washing, probably because I need a cut. It’s supposed to be intense yet lightweight and since I have fine hair I was hoping it wouldn’t weigh it down too much. Luckily, I had no problems and was able to easily comb my hair yet I was still able to style it too. It smelled good too, a warm floral that wasn’t overwhelming to my senses.

Kirk’s Gentle Castile Soap (62 cents) I had to laugh when I saw that this product had the word fragrance right next to where it says “for sensitive skin”. Anyways, it’s a bar of soap about the size of those found in hotel bathrooms so nothing to get excited about.

J&L Naturals Skin Serum ($29.99) Now this is what I want to see in a semi-natural vegan beauty box! It’s a face oil (I’m not seeing the serum connection) made with five different plant oils and scented with lavender and rose geranium essential oils. It’s supposed to help hydrate dry skin and provide antioxidants and anti-inflammatory protection for the skin. I applied to damp skin and you only need about 3-5 drops. It helped my makeup go on smoothly and kept my face looking fresh, or at least I like to think so. It smells very strongly of the rose geranium, which smells an awful lot like dried roses so it may not be everyone’s cup of tea. If you don’t feel like using it on the face then there’s always the elbows, cuticles, and hair.

5th Dimension Radiant Rose Face Mask ($30) The card mentioned a bonus item so this item may vary between boxes. I didn’t see it on the brand’s website and the place we linked to says out of stock so I am guessing it’s been discontinued. There wasn’t a date listed anywhere so I’m not sure how old it is but I know a rancid product when I smell one. I’m guessing the oat flour is off but sadly I have to toss this in the trash.

I found some hits and misses this month, but then again, every product won’t be a hit since it’s not curated specifically to my wants and needs, other than being vegan and cruelty-free. The skin serum was my favorite item, and it just so happens to be the most expensive product in the box so the rest of the items are bonuses for me. Although I rarely use scented hair products, I have had some luck using rinse-out conditioners without getting it on my scalp so it was nice to have silky hair after washing. The peel off mask isn’t something I use and the bar of soap is fine, it’s hard to get excited about such an everyday item, and a small one at that. The bonus item smelled off and since it’s no longer available I’m guessing it may have expired. I’m looking forward to what we may see this coming year from Vegancuts!
