Hullabaloo is focused on bringing modern classics and contemporary children’s stories to your home – helping parents and guardians find the best books to help nourish growing minds. For August 2022, we received some beautiful books set in the ocean plus a summer-themed activity pack!

Ready, set, read!

New subscribers get a free club members-only tote bag! Keep your kids’ favorite books in it, or use it to bring new reads and activity packs when you travel with kids – either way, this is such a cute commemorative item for the start of your kids’ reading journey with Hullabaloo!

Before we head to the books, let’s take a peek at Hullabaloo’s signature activity pack! It contains five cards filled with fun and exciting activities for kids to enjoy. For this particular pack, the activities are Send a Secret Message, Summer Seek & Find, A Summer of Support, Lemonade Tic-Tac-Toe, and Lemonade Crinkle Cookies. Aside from keeping kids busy, these activities will also teach kids new things and help them enhance their creativity!

The main book pick for this month is Oona and the Shark by Kelly DiPucchio ($13.39)! It’s about an extroverted Black mermaid, who easily makes friends with everybody except an introverted hammerhead shark. This is such a cute story about social intelligence, telling kids how to make friends with others who don’t enjoy the same things as they do.

Hullabaloo also offers board books as an add-on to the regular subscription. Here we have Ocean Life by Jill McDonald ($7.19), a board book that teaches little ones about oceans, as well as different creatures that can be found there. This lovely little book is filled with charming illustrations that can easily capture a child’s interest!

Another thing we love about this book subscription is the customizable bookplates! You can request them to print out the kid’s name (or gift recipient’s name) together with your message on the bookplate. Another option is to leave the bookplate blank so you can customize and attach it on your own. Other items in the box we received include a coloring postcard and a sticker sheet.

Hullabaloo makes a wonderful surprise in the mail every month for the little bookworm in your life! They have strict criteria when choosing the books that go into each box, so you know you’ll only get high-quality and culturally-relevant books worthy of adding to your kids’ library. The ocean-themed books in our box didn’t let my kids down, especially the story about Oona the mermaid and her shark friend! The activity pack is also well-thought-out. It’s cute that it follows the theme of the featured book, plus the activities are all kid-friendly. If you’re looking for a thoughtful gift for a kid’s birthday or for any other occasion, this subscription also makes the cut!

The children’s books arrived in a box with a Club Hullabaloo branding. They were also wrapped in printed paper and tied with a cute ribbon!

Hullabaloo is a women-owned book subscription box created for kids. They send a premium picture book to your doorstep once a month, along with an educational activity pack to keep kids engaged. All books featured in this subscription are picked based on a theme, a lesson, or a holiday. All new subscribers get a free club members-only tote. The subscription is $19.95 per month, with an option to add a board book to the box for an extra fee.
