All Her Little Secrets by Wanda M. Morris ($14.49) With a premise that everyone has something to hide, this legal thriller has a fast-paced storytelling style that keeps the reader engaged. The protagonist, Ellice Littlejohn, is the lone black lawyer in their firm. She found her boss dead one morning and after that, it started to get harder for her to keep her secrets. The novel tackles racism, sexism, and harassment in the workplace, and most importantly, black women empowerment. This is the author’s debut work and it’s quite impressive!
Included with the book is the On The Hush playlist which matches the story’s suspenseful mood really well. The discussion questions are also well-put-together, helping readers reflect on what they had just read. If you liked All Her Little Secrets, the guide has several book and series recommendations.

Skin of the Sea by Natasha Bowen ($15.19) This young adult fantasy novel showcases African mythology and history and takes us to the fantastical world of mermaids! The protagonist is a black mermaid named Simidele, who is admirable for how strong and fearless she is. This is also the author’s debut work, with lyrical prose and beautiful descriptions that easily evoke images of the sea. This is a great read for any YA fantasy fan and for anyone looking for diverse representation in mermaid stories!
