I’m Julie Marchant-Houle, CEO of Dinnerly in the US. I’m writing to you today with important news. Dinnerly is updating its pricing, and I wanted to personally share with you what is changing and why.
Making delicious, home-cooked meals easy, affordable, and sustainable has always been our guiding principle, and we’ve been lucky to be invited into kitchens across America. In the two years since Dinnerly started, we’ve never raised our prices. A lot, however, has happened since the start of the pandemic. Among its effects are:
- Increased food prices for all retailers, from grocery and big box stores to meal kits and delivery services
- Spikes in packaging and shipping costs owing to shortages and increased demand
- Necessary safety precautions to protect our staff, including temperature checks, PPE and enhanced cleaning and sterilization protocols
- Increased wages for all of our essential frontline workers, which is both “hazard pay” and “thank you pay,” and which we believe is the right thing to do.
So far, we’ve been able to absorb these costs, but to continue delivering to our quality standards, we must slightly increase our prices. This increase will appear as a price-per-portion change, and it will vary depending on the number of meals you order.
Based on your last order, you currently pay $4.99 per portion. Starting December 21, 2020, this will increase by $0.30 per portion. Your total box price will increase by $1.80.
As we come to the end of a year that presented challenges none of us could have imagined at its start, I feel especially grateful for your membership in our community. I enjoy cooking, but it’s the coming together around the table that, for me, is the true prize moment.
