Retrogade by Peter Cawdron ($7.34)

The international team at the Mars Endeavour colony is prepared for every eventuality except one—what happens when disaster strikes Earth?

Mankind has long dreamed of reaching out to live on other planets, and with the establishment of the Mars Endeavour colony, that dream has become reality. The fledgling colony consists of 120 scientists, astronauts, medical staff, and engineers. Buried deep underground, they’re protected from the harsh radiation that sterilizes the surface of the planet. The colony is prepared for every eventuality except one—what happens when disaster strikes Earth?

Award-winning authors Ben Bova and Robert J. Sawyer have great words for the book. Although it’s a fictional story, it’s a great read for anyone curious about other planets in our Solar System and if life is possible in them!

This book tells us what it’s like to live on another planet, specifically on the red planet, Mars.

The story is somehow in touch with reality. We all know that our planet is experiencing problems that will eventually lead us to think, or even plan to live on another one. The story gave us a glimpse of Mars’ rocky and frozen surface, as the senior members of the U.S. module went to an international mission, away from the war on Earth.

The characters find themselves wondering who to trust in their mission. This is really an interesting read as we all want to know how it’s like to live on another planet. Among the others, we all know that Mars is a possible candidate to cradle the lives from Earth, so it’s really a nice and a must-read tale!

Daughters Of The Storm by Kim Wilkins ($21.63)

Five very different sisters team up against their stepbrother to save their kingdom in this Norse-flavored fantasy epic—the start of a new series in the tradition of Naomi Novik, Peter V. Brett, and Robin Hobb.

FIVE ROYAL SISTERS. ONE CROWN.

They are the daughters of a king. Though they share the same royal blood, they could not be more different. Bluebell is a proud warrior, stronger than any man and with an ironclad heart to match. Rose’s heart is all too passionate: She is the queen of a neighboring kingdom who is risking everything for a forbidden love. Ash is discovering a dangerous talent for magic that might be a gift—or a curse. And then there are the twins—vain Ivy, who lives for admiration, and zealous Willow, who lives for the gods.

But when their father is stricken by a mysterious ailment, these five sisters must embark on a desperate journey to save him and prevent their treacherous stepbrother from seizing the throne. Their mission: find the powerful witch who can cure the king. But to succeed on their quest, they must overcome their differences and hope that the secrets they hide from one another and the world are never brought to light. Because if this royal family breaks, it could destroy the kingdom.

The saga continues in . . .
SISTERS OF THE FIRE

The book is the first of the Blood and Gold series. The back of the book also presented us with some great reviews from other authors.

The story is about 5 sisters who need to work together to heal the king, stopping their stepbrother from seizing the throne.

The sisters, of course, have different personalities, and they need to overcome their differences to fulfill their mission.

The sisters need to trust each other, set aside differences, and be willing to work with each other to find the powerful witch that can reverse the magic that’s making the king sick. It’s a story about the importance of family!

Both books this month satisfied our need for exciting sci-fi adventure stories! We’re curious about life on other planets and we love astronomy as well, so the first book appealed to us a lot. The second book is also an engaging read. Aside from the adventures, it’s filled with great dialogues and life lessons. If you want to have fresh titles delivered to your door monthly, the subscription is a fun and inexpensive choice! We’re already excited about future boxes!
