Play! by Sephora is a monthly subscription box that brings only the best and exclusive Sephora beauty and makeup samples. The subscription costs $10 per month, and you’ll get 5 deluxe beauty products, a beauty bonus, a fragrance bonus, playlists, plus coupons you can use when you visit in-store.

Everything arrives packed in a bag, preventing items from rolling around in the box. This month’s bag goes back to the clean, simplified version of the Play! by Sephora logo.

Don’t forget about your Play! Pass. It gets you 50 extra Beauty Insider points with a purchase from the box (in-store only). Your subscription also entitles you to Play! Date meetups, if your store participates. You can also get a complimentary mini-makeover too.

This month’s theme is The Good Stuff.  Selected products were chosen because they are natural and free of parabens, phthalates, and sulfates. Plus, don’t forget to check out The Beauty Insider Community. Create a profile and start joining the discussion!

The fold-out poster shows a list of all the items included in this box plus tips on selecting natural ingredients to help with your beauty needs. You can access all of the information and also watch videos right on the Sephora site or use the app for more info!

This is my July box. The variation was 202. Click here to see variant items in other boxes. The 2 Tarte products already have me excited!!!

tarte | Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush – Paaarty ($7.77): Paarty is a Sephora-exclusive shade that falls in the pink/peach spectrum (leans a bit more peach to me). Unfortunately, Sephora didn’t give a color description for this shade. Anyway, this blush is legendary! It’s won a ton of awards and is a beauty blogger favorite. I was thrilled to get it. The blush contains mineral pigments which allow you to build color without overdoing it. As the name states, this also contains Amazonian clay which both controls oil and infuses moisture for smooth and seamless blending.

The pan has a such a pretty design of the Amazon and its rainforests. Pans are magnetized so that you can pop them out of the compact to create customized palettes. By the way, the formula is also free of petrochemicals, synthetic fragrances, GMOs, and triclosan.

fresh | Sugar Advanced Therapy Lip Treatment – Dream ($13.30): I LOVE the Sugar line of lip treatments. They’ve been a must-have for me ever since I got my first tubes as a Sephora b-day gift years ago. They provide immediate moisture and help promote healthier looking lips. I swipe this on before putting on my lip color for the day. Dream’s sheer pink tint gives a hint of color when I go gloss- or lipstick-free. This formula provides 24-hour moisture and contains extracts of both sea fennel (plumps and reduces fine lines) and oranges (antioxidant).

Youth to the People | Age Prevention Moisture Cream ($12.00): This lightweight face cream contains kale, spinach, and green tea which give a heavy dose of antioxidant power. The vegan formula also contains hyaluronic acid to moisturize and reduce the look of fine lines. The formula had a mild fresh scent and absorbed quickly.

This air-whipped cream also received the Clean at Sephora seal.

ALGENIST | GENIUS Liquid Collagen ($14.95): At $115 for the full 1 oz. bottle, this is the priciest item in this month’s box! The vegan, collagen-based serum uses microalgae oil beads to penetrate skin with antioxidants while reducing the look of fine lines and wrinkles. It also contains omegas 3, 6, and 9 plus Vitamin E.

Here’s a closer look at the microbeads. The directions say to use a dime-sized amount over your face, neck, and décolletage. This does have a floral/perfume scent. I didn’t mind it, but several other reviews commented that they felt it was heavy.

tarte | Rainforest of the Sea Deep Dive Cleansing Gel ($1.25): This face wash does double duty as a waterproof makeup remover and brightening cleanser. The gel formula was a little difficult to get out of the bottle, but was great once I was able to use it. Build a lather in your hands before applying it to your face. This has a nice soft scent and left my skin clean without feeling stripped. It contains lavender (soothe and tone), Vitamin C (brighten and balance), and antioxidant-rich algae (smooth and soften).

rahua | Freestyle Texturizer ($1.62): This texturizer can be used to create volume and tousled looks. It contains carnuba wax for staying power, Rahua oil to restore moisture with omega 9, Palo Santo oil for a soothing aromatherapy experience, and tapioca starch for hold/definition. I wanted to like this texturizer but didn’t.  While I did see volume, my hair felt crunchy when it dried. The formula was somewhat hard to wash off my hands, so I’m not sure how much really came out when I shampooed. I think this is better for those with fine, straight hair.

Color Swatches (from top): fresh Sugar Lip Treatment and Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush

This month’s Play! by Sephora box had a retail value around $51. Tarte did not disappoint as usual! I love the look, and staying power, of the Amazonian clay blush. Plus, the face wash does a good job of taking off the day’s makeup. It also makes a nice combo with the YTTP cream and Sugar lip treatment at night. The verdict is still out on the Algenist serum though. Did you have any favorites this month? Leave a comment below to let me know your thoughts.
