Birchbox is a beauty sampling subscription service that sends 5 new items each month so you can try before you buy. Birchbox is $10 a month and you can choose a monthly sample during selection time, let Birchbox decide, or pick a pre-curated box. This is a review of a regular, non-curated box without sample choice. How well did it match the profile that I created when I signed up? Read on to find out!

Looking good!

This month, Birchbox’s theme is Sweet Summertime. Here’s some ideas on how to hack your summer.

The information card gives brief details on each item as well as the price if you were to buy the full size.

You can visit Birchbox.com/MyBox to easily see the details of your box, which I recommend because sometimes they have videos on the item product pages which I find useful.

Everything in my July box!

Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Daily Cleanser ($4.60) I know this says it’s a foaming face wash but it was creamy to me, and a touch gritty thanks to the clay. I skipped my usual oil cleanse and went straight for this product and it did get rid of most of my makeup, although I did find some traces of makeup on my cotton pad when I went over it with toner.

Bb. Don’t Blow It Fine Hair Styler ($3.10) The idea behind this product is that you apply it to wet hair after a shower and let your hair air dry, skipping the blow dryer. It is supposed to enhance texture and body and it has UV filters to protect hair from the damaging rays of the sun. I tried it and it did nothing for my hair. I really have to blow dry to get my hair off of my scalp for body, but if you have longer hair and prefer a beachy look then this might work well for you.

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Beso ($11) is half of the full-sized product! I’ve tried this one before and have it in another color, but this one is way too bold for my tastes, and seems more appropriate for winter.

I received the shade Beso, which is described as “True Red.” I swatched it on my arm (shown below) and it didn’t budge for hours! I ended up using a makeup wipe to remove it before bed. I have used this before (in the winter) by placing a dot on my lips and mixing it with another color, but work fast because once it sets, it stays! It helps my regular lipstick last longer.

Arrow Revive Cooling Cheek Tint in Berry Flush ($8) I remember when I first bought a cheek stain, it was decades ago! I like how easy it is to use, just apply to cheeks and blend it in. I washed my fingers immediately afterward but they were “stained” too! It gives a believable flush to the skin, like you just came in from being outside on a cool day. As for the cooling sensation, it is cooling in the sense that you placed a wet gel on your face and the water is evaporating, leaving you a bit cooler.

The Stila lip product is on top, the gel blusher on bottom. This isn’t a true representation of the blush since the gel evaporates and leaves a light stain.

Lavanila The Healthy Fragrance Vanilla Grapefruit Eau De Parfum ($2.37) I love it when I get perfumes in subscription boxes!

I thought vanilla and grapefruit sounded good together, but I mainly smell warm and deep vanilla in this perfume, not so much citrus. I would probably wear this in the fall and not the summer, it smells cozy.

The Original Makeup Eraser You can order your own free sample of The Original Makeup Eraser, just click the link and follow the instructions!

The packaging is cute, and mermaids are definitely right for summer!

You can put the sample to the test to see if it works well for you. I’ve received this sample before in another subscription box and I still use it, I just throw it in the washer and dryer.

It’s pretty small so I use one side to remove eye makeup from one eye, then flip it over and do the other eye. With the full-sized product you could also remove your facial makeup too. It doesn’t get every bit of mascara or eyeliner off so I follow with a remover-soaked cotton pad to get every trace of makeup off but this does the majority of the work, plus it’s so soft and plush. Also, you only use water as the remover, just run it under the faucet and get to work!

I thoroughly enjoyed my July Birchbox! With the exception of the actual color of the lip product, I thought everything fit my profile very well. I have fine hair marked in my profile and although the hair product didn’t work for me I appreciate that Birchbox sent that and not a hair oil. The cleanser is very generously sized, as is the lip product, and I can use the makeup remover scrap for months to come. The cheek gel and perfume will also get used up. My July box had a value of around $29.07, or almost 3 times the price of the box! Keep in mind that your products and value will vary since Birchbox customizes boxes and sends a variety of product combinations.
