Try as I might to make sure that I’m plugging in technology and getting in bed by 9, reading for a half an hour, and setting an alarm for 8.5 hours later, it never seems to work. I wake up groggy and a little bit tangry (tired-angry, anyone?!).
I’ve tried a lot of things this month, including non-negotiable mid-day naps (that I somehow still find a way to negotiate), meditating when I wake up and before I go to sleep, nixing caffeine after noon, eliminating alcohol, all kinds of things, and I’m just not getting it.
But two things I will say I’ve learned: It’s super hard for me to sleep without ear plugs, lip moisturizer, and something meditative before bed – whether it’s a pillow spray, lighting a candle, or simply listening to a talk-down guided meditation. And sometimes it really does feel like the harder I try, the harder it is to sleep, so I’m practicing gratitude as a way of inviting sleep to come on gently.
I hope this month you’ve had the opportunity to try out a few new strategies too, thanks to The Sleep Revolution and are learning more about yourself by logging your sleep hours in your log. Even learning one or two things each week will help us greatly in the long run.
