Makeup Mixologist curates beauty boxes inspired by cocktails. Each month’s box includes a recipe card for the featured cocktail, alongside a range of hand picked full sized and travel sized beauty and makeup products matching the scent or colour of the cocktail.

The cocktail theme is a unique twist on the usual beauty box, but the box itself is actually quite plain.

It could really do with more tissue paper or additional wrapping inside, as the most fragile product had been shaken up and damaged.

March’s box features the omnipresent Espresso martini – one of my all time favourite cocktails!

The recipe card tells you how to prepare the cocktail at home. A nice option if you fancy an evening in.

The box contains four espresso martini-inspired products.

First up is Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Opal. This is the aforementioned damaged product. This lightweight illuminating powder gave my skin a natural looking brightness.  It’s a shame that it arrived all smashed up, because it’s a great product.

Nails inc London in Cadogan Square is a flesh-toned polish, like the colour of a really milky coffee. You can’t really go wrong with Nails inc polish, and I love this shade.  It’s subtle and sophistocated, stylish yet understated, and I think it would complement any skin tone.

Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Intense Color Lipstick 39 is a lovely bright coral shade. Unfortunately, the pretty color of the stick didn’t translate welI onto my lips. I didn’t like how this lipstick felt or looked on me. It was quite dry and slightly sticky, while the colour looked patchy.

ck one eyeliner gel with brush contains a smart little pot of black liner with a thin applicator brush. I don’t often use liquid liner but I really liked this.

The brush allows for precise application and the gel is smooth, making it easy to apply without looking too thick or smudging.

The Makeup Mixologist box contained a really nice selection of products.  Whilst I didn’t like the lipstick, the other three products were big hits. I do wish that the box included some more information about the contents.  Many beauty boxes include an information sheet with details of the items and tips for their use. I’ve come to expect this extra info and missed it with this box. I also wish there was more protective wrapping on the products – it was disappointing to see the powder so smashed up when this probably could have been avoided with a little bubble wrap. The box did have a fragile sticker but that clearly wasn’t enough to keep it from being knocked around in the post.

A bit more attention to detail could elevate this box, but all in all, I was happy with the selection of products and look forward to seeing what next month brings.
