Birchbox is a beauty sampling subscription service that sends 5 new items each month so you can try before you buy. Birchbox is $10 a month and you can choose a monthly sample during selection time, let Birchbox decide, or pick a pre-curated box. This is a review of a regular, non-curated box with a sample choice. How well did it match the profile that I created when I signed up? Read on to find out!

DEAL: For a limited time Birchbox is offering a free beauty gift with your first box when you use code SURPRISEME!

This month, Birchbox sent products that work hard behind the scenes – hardworking essentials to help us get through fall beautifully.

The information card gives brief details on each item as well as the price if you were to buy the full size.

You can visit Birchbox.com/MyBox to easily see the details of your box, which I recommend because sometimes they have videos on the item product pages which I find useful.

I received a card with info on…

…their holiday shop. Start making those lists now!

I was happy to see that an oily product was placed in a plastic bag to keep it from spilling, although my product was perfectly intact.

Everything in my October box! I was a little shocked to find that out of the three sample choices offered, I received all three. I chose the lip liner on purpose, because I didn’t really want the other two, but surprise!

Ouai Rose Hair & Body Oil ($2.99) I’m glad that this oil can be used on my body, since my fine hair gets weighed down by oils. I used it right out of the shower on damp skin, and was happy that the rose scent wasn’t overwhelming. It smelled more like perfume – Stella McCartney maybe? Sunflower oil and shea oil are a couple of the skin/hair soothers mentioned in the ingredients.

Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Cream ($6) is full of ceramides that are supposed to help lend relief to red, irritated skin. It had a light scent and my skin absorbed it very quickly.

Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray ($5.41) smells fabulous and didn’t leave a ton of powdery residue like some dry shampoos. My hair is oily by the end of the day and this gives it a quick touch-up, as recommended by my hair stylist – just spray near roots, wait a few seconds, and then fluff it up with fingers.

Avène Hydrance Intense Rehydrating Serum ($3.76) is a white, creamy product with a floral scent while the first ingredient is spring water from France. Apply before moisturizer to provide up to 24-hours of time-released hydration.

Lipstick Queen Lip Liner in Nude ($9) was my sample choice since I kind of like lip liners and I don’t have that many in my collection.

The shade “Nude” is a little more red than I thought it would be, but I like it!

I think “Neutral” might have been a better name, but I really like the formula and shade. It went on smoothly and I covered it with lip gloss on one occasion, paired it with lipstick on another.

My favorite items this month were the lip liner and dry shampoo, while the skin care items were a little too perfumey for my sensitive skin. I was happy that the hair oil could be used as a body oil, but I was shocked to find all three sample choice items in my box. Birchbox sends out many box variations each month and the value of my box overall was about $27.16. I rated my products on the Birchbox website to see if that helps me get selections that work for me in future boxes.
