The box contained four different wooden items to burn with your design of choice. Clockwise from the top is a recipe box, wooden block, practice wood (has the sponge brush on top), and wooden coasters.

The gloss varnish and the sponge brush are for sealing in your work when done. The pins are to convert the wooden block into a photo holder by pushing them into the top.

Of course, an actual wood burner was included and had multiple tips so that different designs could be achieved. I was very excited by this box as this technique is something I had not ever tried before.

These items all came with an instruction sheet that talked through the box’s contents and was a step by step guide on getting the craft done. The first instruction of course is to read all the instructions before starting…

The sheet is two sided as they take you through each step individually.

A couple of sheets of designs were included for inspiration, but the really cool thing about this project is that you could go with these, or come up with a design of your own.

I started by practicing on the piece of wood they provided. With all of the different tips and possible results, it was important to not skip this part!

I did one of their designs on the practice wood, then decided I would venture out on my own for the actual piece.

I drew a butterfly from a photo I had taken earlier in the week directly onto the wooden block. I then proceeded to use the wood burning tool and see what I ended up with. I was very pleased with the results and enjoyed the process of focusing on art and putting everything else out of my mind for a bit. It was a relaxing and rewarding experience for me.

If you are looking to pick up a relaxing and enjoyable hobby, I’d recommend giving this a try. It will give you something different to accomplish each month and help expand your appreciation for the arts.

Enjoy!
