This box is really decorated inside and out. While the outside has little food items on it, the inside is full of bright green words. Plastic wrap and brown butcher paper keep all the contents safe.

August’s Degustabox has a Back to School theme. Thankfully my school-going days are behind me, but I’m still happy to indulge on some kid-friendly treats.

The information sheet gives details for each product and also includes recipes for a Gin Gina and Grilled Korean Short Ribs with Salsa Verde.

Seabrook Original Crinkle Cut Crisps (£1.00) come in a convenient variety pack for on-the-go lunches. Whilst these crinkle cut crisps are okay, I don’t think they are as tasty as the Seabrook lattice crisps I received in a previous Degustabox. I generally prefer a kettle cooked crisp, but if you like your crisps less crunchy then these are a good choice, and a bargain at just £1!

Bahlsen PiCK UP! Black ‘N White (£1.69) are chocolate sandwich biscuits filled with a thin bar of white chocolate. These are a lot like Oreos but with solid white chocolate in place of the creme, which makes for a slightly crunchier treat.

These taste really nice and they come individually wrapped – perfect for making a packed lunch, or if you just need some help with biscuit portion control!

What is there to say about Hellmann’s Real Mayonnaise (£1.69)? It’s made with 100% free range eggs and sustainably sourced oils. If you like mayonnaise, then you really can’t go wrong with Hellmann’s, especially when it comes in a handy squeeze bottle.

The box comes with two pouches of JellySqueeze (2 x £0.69). These jelly treats are schools compliant, gluten and lactose free and suitable for vegans. The orange flavour was nice and fresh tasting, but I haven’t tried the apple & blackcurrant yet.

The box also contains two bags of Light Bites Popped Chips (2 x £0.69). These are are a healthy alternative to crisps. Each pack is under 100 calories, and being made with soya and chickpea pieces, they are a good source of fibre and protein. Wow, were these yummy! These are a bit thinner and crisper than other popped chips I’ve tried, but equally delicious. The Sweet and Smoky Chipotle chips have an awesome strong flavour of spice and smoke, reminiscent of a barbecue flavoured crisp. I haven’t tried the Pesto and Sundried Tomato yet but I’m looking forward to trying them. I really enjoyed these and wouldn’t hesitate to buy them again.

Another set of two, Maggi Fusian Noodles (2 x £1.39) are a spiced up version of Maggi noodles which come with packets of oil, herbs and veggies for extra flavour.

I haven’t tried the Sticky Hoisin Duck flavour, but I really liked the Fiery Sweet Chilli flavour.  I prepared it as directed and added some edamame, spinach and carrots for more substance. I found the noodles to be spicy and flavourful but husband thought they were ‘missing something’ and wasn’t as keen.

Twisted Halo (£1.50) is a coconut water, ginger & vodka beverage with only natural flavours, no added sugar or sweeteners and only 90 calories per bottle. This drink sounds delicious but was disappointing for me. The promised flavours of coconut, lime and ginger were so weak they were pretty much indiscernible. It just tasted was like a slightly sweeter, weaker version of a normal vodka soda. My husband tried some as well and agreed this was bland.

Tabasco Green Pepper Sauce (£1.89) is a versatile mix of mild green jalapeno peppers with vinegar and salt, great for adding tang to Mexican dishes. The info sheet suggests adding it to margaritas or pina coladas – I haven’t given that a try but it is tempting!

Orangina Limited Edition Summer Bottles (2 x £1.20) dress up the softly sparkling orange drink in a swimsuit theme. The box has one bottle of light and one bottle of regular. The packaging is, um, kind of weird looking, but the flavour is nice, very light and refreshing.

Refreshers Softies (£1.00) are a soft, fruity and chewy verson of Refreshers. I’ve never actually heard of or tried Refreshers, which Degustabox tells me is a much loved retro confectionary, so I can’t compare these to the original. These tasted kind of artificial and odd to me, and I didn’t care for them at all.

Cadbury Dairy Milk Big Taste Toffee Whole Nut (£0.65) is a very tasty bar with a light and creamy filling, layered in caramel, with whole hazelnuts and a coating of milk chocolate. Delish!

Cadbury Curlywurly Squirlies (£1.99) are a shareable bag of chewy, chocolate-covered caramel pieces.

I’ve never had these before but, man, I could only eat one for fear I would lose a tooth! These taste very nice but are just way too chewy for me to enjoy.

August’s Back to School themed Degustabox had some some familiar products and some that were totally new to me.  While there were a couple of definite misses, I liked most of the items. The Cadbury Dairy Milk Big Taste Toffee Whole Nut, Light Bites Popped Chips and Bahlsen PiCK UP! were all new to me and super tasty!
