Five books from multiple publishers. Comic Bento did well including some with their offering this month.

Comic Bento includes a 2-sided card that gives you some insight into the books they sent. They also give some backstory as to why they chose the books within the subscription box. This month’s theme is “BENTO GETS WET.”

Comic Bento is great at providing variety while sticking to their theme.

Michael Turner’s Fathom: Dawn of Way: The Complete Saga – Aspen Comics – $9.99 cover price.  Michael Turner was one of the greatest artists the world of comic books has ever had. Comic Bento delivers one of his most popular creations and this is an exclusive cover for subscribers.

The Mercenary Sea: Volume 1 – Image Comic – $9.99 cover price. Image comics is the place to go for independent comics. I really like the art in this comic series.

1938 — The South Seas. Japan has invaded China. War in Europe is imminent. Ex-bootlegger Jack Harper captains the Venture, a refitted German U-Boat, with a crew of expats, mercenaries and fortune hunters. Meanwhile, Jack dreams of landing the greatest score ever: finding the legendary lost island of Koji Ra. Collects THE MERCENARY SEA #1-6.

Anne Bonnie – Blue Juice Comics – $14.99 cover price. The art inside is fun and more cartoon-ish and it should make this wild and crazy comic series a blast.

Pirates, magic and adventure collide in this action-packed all-ages series from Blue Juice Comics and Tim Yates. The Great Sea is still in chaos after the mysterious disappearance of the Pirate Queen Anne Bonnie, and danger lurks over every crest. Join Ariana aboard a stolen magical pirate ship on her quest to become the world’s greatest pirate. Along the way she’ll make new friends – and enemies – and learn what being a pirate really means. Set sail for adventure in the first 6-issue arc of ANNE BONNIE: THE JOURNEY BEGINS! And when she’s through, the Sea will never be the same again!

Fantastic Four/Inhumans: Atlantis Rising – Marvel Comics – $39.99 cover price. The cover price alone pays for this box. This is a thick book filled with action. It’s a story from the mid-90s with that 90s look to it. Lots of art lines, cleavage and metal body and face armor. They take it easy on the pouches though.

The crossover that literally reshaped the face of Marvel’s Earth is collected for the first time! When sorceress Morgan Le Fay forces the sunken continent of Atlantis back above the waves, it creates a crisis for Namor – not to mention the water-breathing Atlanteans! The Fantastic Four race to the Sub-Mariner’s aid as Thor, the Inhumans, and Franklin Richards’ young team the Fantastic Force become ensnared in Morgan’s scheme. But when the sorceress’ chilling endgame comes to light, can this motley collection of heroes save the day?

COLLECTING: Namor the Sub-Mariner 60-62, Fantastic Four: Atlantis Rising 1-2, Fantastic Force (1994) 8-9, Fantastic Four (1961) 401-402, Fantastic Four Unlimited 11

The Crogan Adventures: “Catfoot’s Vengeance” – ONI Press – $17.99 cover price. Comic Bento normally has 4 books in their box but this month we are treated with 5! Chris Schweizer is the person behind making this comic book and it’s filled with fun imagery and dialogue that feels like you’re hearing it straight from a pirate.

Chris Schweizer’s award-winning historical adventure series returns in this new FULL COLOR edition of The Crogan Adventures: Catfoot’s Vengeance. When “Catfoot” Crogan becomes the new favorite of an infamous pirate captain whose crew he was forced to join, he incurs the wrath of the murderous first mate D’or. Can Catfoot keep his new crewmates safe when D’or hatches a scheme that will bring the full might of every navy in the West Indies down on their heads?

Previously published in black and white as Crogan’s Vengeance.

Comic Bento is such an awesome value! All five of these books were packaged well together and arrived in spectacular condition. As stated earlier, there is a theme but there’s also a ton of variety, and the theming of this box is pretty unique amongst comic subscriptions. The curator’s notes really bring the theme together, and that made this box even more awesome!

What did you think of this month’s Comic Bento theme?
