Literary Vacation Club is a subscription that sends one to two books plus items to tantalize all 5 senses. Each box also comes with bonus bookish goodies. This box covers all genres, except for Horror, Poetry, and Erotica. Prices range $14.99 to $29.99.

My earth-friendly side loves that all the packing products are recycled from other subscription boxes. There is a letter explaining why the CEO does this and that no two boxes will be packaged the same but will, of course, have only the best products to heighten your reading experience. The amount of tape on the package this month was a little disheartening because of how sloppy it looked and the effort that was needed to get to the items.

For this month’s theme, we have: Pushing Daisies a Murder Mystery. I found it a little odd that the back cover is the one with the theme and the little book didn’t seem to have a solid flow.

DEAL: Get 10% off on your first box! Use coupon code WELCOME10.

A detailed list of what may be found in my box.

A spoiler for the June box… Destination Russia. Also, there is a letter from CEO of Literary Vacation Club, Ashley Nestler. Join the Book Club on Facebook for a great way to share your reading experience.

To Hear

Literary Vacation box has compiled a playlist to go along with Perennials! Visit literaryvacationclub.com and click on “book playlists” to access. The playlist will be titled after the books.

Perennials: A Novel by Bryce Gibson ($10.99)

Summer in South Carolina—a time of ripe peaches, crackling bonfires, trips to the lake, and the rural legend of a creature known as the Lizard Man. This year, a very real monster is lurking about. The victims all have one thing in common—they share their names with plants. Soon it becomes apparent that seventeen-year-olds Dusty Miller and Nandina Bush may be next on the killer’s list. “That was when I realized that the red I saw in the driveway wasn’t blood. It was a scattering of rose petals. Deep down, I knew, right at that very moment, that what all of us had been afraid of for the past several months had already happened. The serial killer had finally made his way to Crow County.” – Dusty Miller

This is the best item in this month’s box and I can’t wait to read what sounds like a page turner. I always like the challenge of trying to figure out who done it prior to the end of the book. There is nothing better than being a detective in the comfort of my house and without having to see anything gross.

To See

Special Edition Notebook with Wood Pencil. I was excited to get this notebook with a silhouette of Sherlock Holmes but after further inspection, I was just let down. The sticker was haphazardly attached to the cover. It was peeling off the cover and you can see the choppy cut lines. The wood pencil is great but I really would have preferred the notebook to have been left alone instead of looking like it was a rushed job.

To Taste

Strong Coffee from Cafe Bustelo. A strong cup of coffee is a necessity of crime solving, how else can one stay up all night working out who is the perp. I love this coffee as it’s bold and flavorful, just what this girl needs in the morning, afternoon or with dessert.

To Touch

Dusty Miller and Nandina Bush Bookmarks. These were made after the two main characters and they represent the plants they were named after.

To Smell

Lavender Sachet. It’s a light scent and I love lavender but the super small pieces keep falling through the mess bag. I would not add this to my drawers to make my clothes smelling wonderful because I refuse to put on dirty clothes. It would look nice in a small container in the bathroom for a fresh scent.

Bonus items!

Crime Scene Lanyard. It’s bright and will never get lost so use it to keep track of your keys while crime solving.

A black rose that turns into…

A tote! It can be clipped to your backpack or purse in case you need an extra hand carrying groceries or more books. So much more fashionable than plastic bags.

Perennial Seeds! My second favorite item in this month’s box, I can’t wait to see what pops up in my flower bed. Mixed flowers are my favorite because it’s so natural and the way they compliment one another makes me truly appreciate natures ability to create beauty.

Sherlock Holmes Necklace. He is the ultimate detective and one of my favorite literary characters. Did you know that there was no 221 Baker Street at the time Arthur Conan Doyle wrote Sherlock Homes? I just love that tidbit of information.

Literary Vacation Club is unique because they attempt take all five senses for a trip. This month’s box made me feel like it was thrown together without the normal love and consideration for each item included. I like unique items but want them to have a quality that screams “show me off.” I am very much looking forward to the book and that alone made me happy to get Mays box. I hope June will blow me over.
