The Taste and Curiosity around the world international snack subscription box is quite interesting as it doesn’t make you commit to a monthly $19 subscription if you don’t want to, and allows you to buy a box curated to a particular country. China, Japan, and Korea were all available when I took a look at their website.

This review takes a look at the Korea Box which they named the Seoul Set.

The box came filled and well packed. There was an information postcard included which describes all the products. This was my first time trying Japanese treats and I was very excited, and grateful for the information card.

This box contained 11 varied treats, ranging from sweet to salty. It also contained a magnet. A different one is included in every box.

First, let’s look at the sweets part of this box. They came in the cookie/cake/wafer variety. On the left is the Margaret Choco Cookie. It smells a bit like a Chewy Chips Ahoy cookie, but instead of chips, the two cookies in this packet had a chocolate filling. The second was a Happy Promise Custard Cake, which has a creamy custard filling. It was very tasty. On the far right, the Ace Sand Yogurt Biscuit was less sweet than the other two, and filled with a yogurt flavored white creme. There were two in this packet as well.

Two Couque D’Aase Waffers were included. They look the same on the inside, but both have slightly different flavors. One is White Torte while the other is Vienna coffee. These waffers have a nice crispy snap to them and would pair well with coffee or tea.

Three Waffle Crisp came in the packet. While they remind me of the waffle cone we can get ice cream in at the shop, the buttery flavor of these crisps made them tastier than any cone I’ve tried. The included information card notes to place them on top of a mug to heat up the crisp. Looking forward to trying that tip.

The Choco Pie reminded me of a Moon Pie. Although honestly, this Korean version is BETTER! It may have to do with the fact that it was super fresh and soft. I gobbled it up pretty quickly.

To help us enjoy these treats, the Maxim packet of Instant Coffee Grounds was included. The card tells me instant coffee is huge in Korea, and that this one earns top marks. The pink packet is a peach flavored water jelly. The card warns it is NOT a substitute for fruit! Ha… I had high hopes.

On the saltier side of the equation, two options were included. Ottogi Ppshu Ppshu Ramen Snack and Seasoned Seaweed.

On the Ramen Snack, you break up the contents, then add some of the seasoning sauce. It does have a high sodium content (39%), so I decided to save trying it for another day. Even so, what an interesting alternative to potato chips!

Finally, the Seaweed crisps were delicious! I made them disappear shortly after trying the first one.  Is this the Korean version of Lay’s? Can’t eat just one… Mind you, it probably helps that I enjoy seaweed in my sushi rolls already. I do believe its an acquired taste.

Take a culinary treats tour of Seoul without leaving your home! Buy it for yourself, a friend, or a child away at college that is open to new flavors.
