Betoyo Bento is a anime box shipping out of Hong Kong. This is the March box. Betoyo Bento promises to deliver a box of anime goodies each month, but researching the box and past reviews brought up a lot of issues that I addressed in my review of the January box.
To summarise: box was started by two founders, one founder quit. The other founder has lost the passion to continue the box but instead of just cancelling it and refunding, has been not sending out boxes, sending bootlegs, and so on and so forth. That being said, buyer beware before subscribing as there is no indication that things have gone south on the website – though there are complaints on the CrateJoy website. The box is $28 USD a month with $5 shipping on top. No information card is included.
Kurage-Hime (Princess Jellyfish) Bandana I do need to give Betoyo Bento points for the presentation this month! My last box was just stuffed into the big Hatsune Miku bag that was included. This month, the plain box is wrapped bento-style in a very cute bandana. Kurage-hime is a manga and anime series taking place in a women-only apartment in Tokyo. The main character is fascinated with jellyfish (and has a jellyfish of her own).
One Piece Figure Tony Tony Chopper is a blue-nosed reindeer character in One Piece. This figure is huge but arrived with one of the feet broken off. I’m impressed by the paint job and the detail on this – though I’m not a One Piece expert so I don’t know if it’s authentic. It’s a shame it’s broken though – it even includes a stand.
Tsubasa Chronicle Passcase I love anything CLAMP – the art style is so beautiful! Tsubasa was an alternate universe mashup of popular CLAMP series such as Cardcapture Sakura, X, and Magic Knight Rayearth. This passcase features Syaoran and Makkona!
Attack on Titan Tote This tote is very nicely made – it has a long shoulder strap and shorter handle straps. I’m not a huge Attack on Titan fan but I love tote bags. They’re so handy.
Merry Nightmare Microfiber Towel Merry Nightmare is the main female protagonist in the series Dream Eater Merry. She is a muma, or dream demon, who is trapped in the waking world and needs to find her way home.
Nyan Board Figure Yeah, this is my favourite thing in the box. It’s a cat! That looks like it’s made out of cardboard! I love its scruffy little mouth/nose.
This month’s Betoyo Bento was an improvement over the seriously delayed January box, but I still don’t think this is a box that is going to have long-term success due to the creator’s lack of interest. I’m disappointed that one of the items was damaged, and overall the contents weren’t worth the $33. If you’re an anime fan like me, you’re better off looking into Loot Anime, Anime Bento, or another anime box that is more reliable.
