TokyoTreat is a Japanese treat box that is shipped directly from Japan. TokyoTreat has three levels of boxes, which seems to be the norm with snack boxes. Shipping is included with the boxes ($14.99 for mini, $24.99 for regular, $34.99 for premium).

DEAL:

The TokyoTreat magazine is read right to left like Japanese books and comics. It includes the product information as well as information on Japanese culture, the monthly giveaway, instructions for the DIY kit, and other features.

February’s box is full of delicious fruit and chocolate treats to celebrate Valentines Day. In Japan, Valentine’s Day is a different deal. On February 14, only women give chocolate to men. You can also give “girl choco” to males who you are not romantically interested in like friends and coworkers. A month later, March 14, is known as White Day and on that day men return the favour by giving chocolate to the women they got chocolate from on Valentine’s Day.

Most of the popular snack boxes have this sort of tiered system with three levels of size!

Here’s what’s included in the small box!

Strawberry Chocolate Barley Puffs At first I thought these were jelly beans but they aren’t – they are a puffed piece of barley in a hard candy coating. They are crunchy and sweet and the bag is too small.

Picola We have something similar in North America but I forget what we call them here – the thinly rolled crunchy cookies with chocolate or strawberry inside.  Addicting.

Trol Choco Strawberry Assortment This bag contains individually wrapped chocolates. I took these into work on the weekend as a Valentines Day treat and everyone enjoyed them – the one I tried had bits of strawberry piece in the chocolate, while others were solid strawberry and white chocolate.

Peach Gumballs I found these gumballs to be very soft and much easier to eat than hard gumballs we find here.

Clam Soup Chips I was a bit wary of trying these as I have only ever eaten clams once – I prefer raw oysters when it comes on shellfish. But these were really good – they have a savory, heart flavor and the chips themselves are deliciously crunchy kettle chips.

Mini Asparagus Biscuits Don’t worry, no actual asparagus. They are cookies with chocolate on one side. I took these to work as well since they are rather “safe” and simple, and they were a hit.

Mini Peach Ramune Tiny ramune candies with peach flavor! These are crunchy and addicting.

The regular box includes all of the above, plus:

Gummy Apple Calpis Calpis is a popular drink in Japan, it’s made with yogurt but is carbonated for a weird disorienting but delicious creamy soda. These gummies are very soft and squishy and have that milky flavor, but apple flavored.

DIY Strawberry Mousse Kit I could not get this one to work right! It’s supposed to be a mousse but mine came out like a firm pudding and I didn’t like the texture. I think my microwave is too powerful for DIY recipes that involve using it.

Bourbon Petit Shrimp Crackers I’m not into shrimp so these were left on Mitch’s desk for Monday morning. Bourbon specializes in these tiny crackers and cookies which are so cute.

Harvest Cheese Sandwich My favorite item in the box – fancier version of Ritz crackers with airy cheese and savory biscuit. I gobbled these up in under a minute. You can’t stop.

And finally, the premium box, which includes everything in the small and regular, plus:

Strawberry Chocolate Lollipops A set of cute printed lollipops made of strawberry chocolate.

Strawberry Fromage Pocky Midi I like Pocky’s Midi line – they have triple the amount of icing on the cookies. This is a strawberry cheesecake flavor that was perfect for this fruit-themed Valentines Day box.

Sparkling Apple Soda I love sparkling apple cider at New Years, and this bottled variation is made with Japanese apples from Aomori Prefecture. No artificial flavoring and extra apple is grated into it for more flavor.

Strawberry Langue De Chat Cookie Strawberry flavored butter cookies. There are three packages of around 8 individually sealed in the box so you don’t have to eat them all in one go. Don’t be like me.

Lucky Charm It’s 2017 and everyone could use some luck for the new year! Six variations of this adorable charm were sent out. I got a cute bird of some sort… where is our resident bird expert, Catherine???

I love Tokyo Treat – they really have got the balance of a good snack box down. There’s always a good mix of savory and sweet, and the added drink and DIY are my favorite parts to try each month!
