Foodstirs is a monthly baking subscription box . Every month you’ll receive family-oriented baking kits made with premium and real ingredients, free of preservatives, artificial dyes and flavors. The mixes use organic and non-GMO ingredients when available.

Your subscription will start with the kit indicated on the subscription information page!

The theme for December was Very Merry Gingerbread Cookies.  When the treats have a holiday theme, this subscription typically comes way in advance of the holiday, so you’ll have it not only in time to make for the holiday itself, but also in time for pre-holiday parties, if you like.  Unfortunately this kit arrived after December 21.

The box includes a card letting you know the ingredients needed, tools, baking time, quantity, etc.

I like that it breaks down the ingredients you need twice (the second time being what you need at home).  The kit includes all dry ingredients and decorative items — you supply eggs, butter, and other dairy when needed.  Most projects call for a stick of butter or so, and icings usually require some yogurt.

The information card also has useful tips written on it — usually there is a factoid and a couple of options for adding some extra flair or flavor to your creation.

The box includes complete nutritional and ingredients information. You will like the ingredients – never anything artificial, and the ingredients are primarily organic with only natural food dye.

The instructions. They are step by step with a photo for each step.

Here’s everything that was in our box!

The mixes – gingerbread cookie mix and vanilla frosting mix!

And the decorations!  Organic crushed peppermint and Surf Sweets gummy bears and organic jelly beans. Plus, a frosting bag, frosting tip, and giant gingerbread cookie cutter.

The instructions for this month were a marked improvement over other months. Instead of beating cold butter, we were asked to beat room temperature butter. Finally! Then we mixed it with an egg, added the mix, and slowly added 3 T of water until it formed a dough.

We had to refrigerate the dough for an hour or so before rolling it out. These gingerbread people were giant – the recipe said it made 10.

We got 8 plus assorted other shapes (see these cookies in our December Minechest review!). They baked beautifully.

The kids had a GREAT time decorating and we had so much fun family time with this box!

The baby got in on the action, and he started out by sprinkling the crushed candy canes one by one.

Then he decided to go for it!

Ta-da!

I think it turned out great – probably better than the big kids’ cookies – they did their own frosting. But all of them are precious, even my husband’s ugly sweater gingerbread man.

Look, I made some too! This box was one of the most fun boxes from Foodstirs yet, plus it was yummy! Our family had a great time baking together, and that’s what this box is all about!

Did you do Foodstirs this month? What did you think of our Gingerbread Family?
