I received 2 paperbacks, 2 hardbacks, codes for 4 ebooks, a postcard, Gummy Bears, and two pins. One thing to keep in mind is that boxes may vary. December’s boxes included 4 books out of 8 different ones sent, plus everyone received the same four digital books.

This is the flip side of the postcard.

I just want to say how floored I was to find this new release book at the bottom of the box! This is my favorite type of book (historical fiction) and I was jumping up and down. You would have thought I had won the lottery!

I am already halfway through Victoria by Daisy Goodwin  ($26.99 $18.05). I love historical fiction and if it takes place in England it’s even better. Throw in some romance and I’m over the moon. This book hits all those notes and more!

Drawing on Queen Victoria’s diaries, which she first started reading when she was a student at Cambridge University, Daisy Goodwin―creator and writer of the new PBS/Masterpiece drama Victoria and author of the bestselling novels The American Heiress and The Fortune Hunter―brings the young nineteenth-century monarch, who would go on to reign for 63 years, richly to life in this magnificent novel.

Early one morning, less than a month after her eighteenth birthday, Alexandrina Victoria is roused from bed with the news that her uncle William IV has died and she is now Queen of England. The men who run the country have doubts about whether this sheltered young woman, who stands less than five feet tall, can rule the greatest nation in the world.

Despite her age, however, the young queen is no puppet. She has very definite ideas about the kind of queen she wants to be, and the first thing is to choose her name.

“I do not like the name Alexandrina,” she proclaims. “From now on I wish to be known only by my second name, Victoria.”

Next, people say she must choose a husband. Everyone keeps telling her she’s destined to marry her first cousin, Prince Albert, but Victoria found him dull and priggish when they met three years ago. She is quite happy being queen with the help of her prime minister, Lord Melbourne, who may be old enough to be her father but is the first person to take her seriously.

On June 19th, 1837, she was a teenager. On June 20th, 1837, she was a queen. Daisy Goodwin’s impeccably researched and vividly imagined new book brings readers Queen Victoria as they have never seen her before.

Is anyone else excited about the miniseries coming to PBS in January?

Lone Wolf by Sara Driscoll ($25 $18.75) is the first book in the new FBI K-9 series and features a Labrador as one of the main characters.

Meg and Hawk are part of the FBI’s elite K-9 unit. Hawk can sniff out bodies anywhere—living or dead—whether it’s tracking a criminal or finding a missing person. When a bomb rips apart a government building on the National Mall in Washington D.C., it takes all of the team’s extensive search-and-rescue training to locate and save the workers and visitors buried beneath the rubble.

But even as the duo are hailed as heroes, a mad bomber remains at large, striking terror across the Eastern seaboard in a ruthless pursuit of retribution. As more bombs are detonated and the body count escalates, Meg and Hawk are brought in to a task force dedicated to stopping the unseen killer. But when the attacks spiral wide and any number of locations could be the next target, it will come down to a battle of wits and survival skills between Meg, Hawk, and the bomber they’re tracking to rescue a nation from the brink of chaos.

Too Hot to Handle by Tessa Bailey ($5.99) is the first in a new series about siblings who take a road trip together to fulfill their late-mother’s last wish.

When rescue looks like a whole lot of trouble . . .

The road trip was definitely a bad idea. Having already flambéed her culinary career beyond recognition, Rita Clarkson is now stranded in God-Knows-Where, New Mexico, with a busted-ass car and her three temperamental siblings, who she hasn’t seen in years. When rescue shows up—six-feet-plus of hot, charming sex on a motorcycle—Rita’s pretty certain she’s gone from the frying pan right into the fire . . .

Jasper Ellis has a bad boy reputation in this town, and he loathes it. The moment he sees Rita, though, Jasper knows he’s about to be sorely tempted. There’s something real between them. Something raw. And Jasper has only a few days to show Rita that he isn’t just for tonight—he’s forever.

The Greek’s Christmas Bride by Lynne Graham ($4.99) is the Harlequin romance-of-the-month. My friend Tessa loves these books and I pass them on to her right after I peruse the juicy parts.

A good Greek wife…

Coldly ruthless and deeply cynical, Apollo Metraxis has made a career of bachelorhood. But when the inheritance of his father’s estate is conditional on a marriage and a child, he is forced to do the unthinkable!

Unpolished Pixie Robinson is the world’s worst choice of a wife for Apollo. Yet her family’s mounting debts leave her defenseless and therefore uniquely suitable. But when the wedding night exposes Pixie’s untouched vulnerability, striking a chord in the dark reaches of his heart, Apollo is forced to think again.

And that’s before he discovers that she’s carrying not one but two Metraxis heirs!

This was my favorite box this month! I love the variety of books and enjoy being able to choose based on whatever I feel like reading at any given time, be it a mystery, romance, or even a short and sweet/hot/light read. This month my box was worth $61.74, more than double the price of the subscription! These books have high ratings on Amazon and are so fresh that at least one wasn’t even available to the public yet! Now I must return to reading my novel as the 1800’s are calling my name. Happy reading friends!
