This month’s package arrived well-packed with pieces of paper providing extra support during transport. Once I removed them, I was greeted by a delightful collection of illustrated children’s books. Both of my kids were so excited to see what was inside!

Along with the books, this month’s box arrived with a Christmas crossword puzzle.

Every month, Bookcase.Club includes activities for children in their Read to Me Case. My son can’t get enough of them! They’re the first thing my son asks for as soon as he opens his box every month.

In addition to the crossword puzzle, the package contained four picture books: “Santa Duck” by David Milgrim, “Peter Rabbit My Father’s Flying Machine,” “New Red Bike” by James E. Ransome and “The Mitten String” by Jennifer Rosner.

“Santa Duck” by David Milgrim ($6.99) is a cute story about Santa’s unlikely helper, Duck. After dressing up like Santa, all the animals mistake Duck for Santa Claus. When Duck finally meets Mr. Claus, he relays the animals’ messages to St. Nick, but forgets to tell Mr. Claus what he’d like for himself. In the end, he learns that the best thing about Christmas is helping others. My kids and I all loved this adorable, funny, heart warming story. It left my kids excited about the upcoming holidays.

In “Peter Rabbit’s My Father’s Flying Machine” ($3.99), Peter and his friends learn of how Peter’s father once created a flying machine that flew right into Mr. MacGregor’s garden! Determined to find it, Peter and his friends enter the garden only to find the flying machine deconstructed into different parts and strewn about the garden. Together, they reassemble the different parts and use their new flying machine to escape from the clutches of Mr. MacGregor. Although my kids and I all enjoyed reading about the industriousness of Peter and his friends, I couldn’t help but long for the original illustrations that made Beatrix Potter’s characters so memorable.

“New Red Bike” by James E. Ransome ($16.95) is a story of friendship, playing and sharing among friends. I liked that the best friends in the book had different skin colors. I also liked that one takeaway from the book is that it’s important to communicate with each other. That’s a lesson that we can never hear too often in our house!

Of all the books we received this month, “The Mitten String” by Jennifer Rosner ($15.97) was my favorite! In this book, a kind family takes in a deaf, stranded stranger and her young child. Before offering the mother and child refuge, the young protagonist had never met a deaf person before. Through careful observation and empathy, she figures out a way to create something that her new found friends can really use. This is a wonderful story of selflessness, love and the joy of giving.

My kids love this subscription! Whenever the box arrives, my kids always gather around to see what goodies are inside. I’m thrilled that this subscription brings so much joy and quality family time to our home each month.

I really enjoyed this month’s Read to Me Case from BookCase.Club! All four of these books were new to us, and we will happily read them again and again. These books were all engaging and included great, age appropriate messages and themes. The value was great too – over $43 worth of books for $14.99! And for each new subscription, they donate a book to Books for Keeps in the Classic City, Athens, GA! This subscription is a real win for us. We can’t wait to see what they send next month!
