Comic Bento is great at providing variety. This is pretty cool as you get four different titles from all different publishers.

055

Spirits Within Shadowman – Valiant Comics – Hardcover – $24.99. Shadowman is one of the well-known names in the Valiant world. Valiant became one of the bigger players in the comic book publishing world during the 1990s.

  • Jack Boniface nearly died one night — attacked by something out of a nightmare. But since that terrifying experience something has changed. Now, when darkness falls, a feeling comes over him, an urge to destroy the demons that would defile the New Orleans night. Wild, reckless, and hell-bent on eliminating evil in all its forms, Jack is now his city’s new protector — the nocturnal avenger simply called Shadowman.
  • A deluxe hardcover collecting Shadowman’s legendary first appearance in the original Valiant Universe, featuring classic work by Steve Ditko, Steve Englehart, Bob Hall, David Lapham, Jim Shooter, and more, this volume collects Shadowman (1992) #0-7, and material from Darque Passages (1994) #1.

058

The Mask Strikes Back – Dark Horse Comics – $14.95. The Mask had a comic book following in the 90s but it was when the movie starring Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz came out that the Mask became well known.

Rick, Ben, Hugo, and Archie are four teens with a fixation on that melon-headed menace, The Mask. When they each get a shot at wearing the empowering emerald artifact, they figure it’s a dream come true! And it is! Power, fame, and ultimate wish fulfillment are at arm’s reach! But so is the mute man-monster, Walter, and arm’s reach is far too close when he’s involved!

060

Turok: Conquest – Dynamite Comics – $16.99. This book is not from the 90s but Turok became popular in the 90s under a different comic book publisher.

Shunned from his tribe, a young Native American named Turok fights to survive, making a lonely life for himself in the unforgiving forest. But his hard-won cunning and survival skills face the ultimate test when man-eating Thunder Lizards attack his people! Why are dinosaurs here? How have they survived? And will Turok use his abilities to save a society that’s taken everything away from him? Prepare for history-twisting carnage from superstar Greg Pak (Batman/Superman) and Mirko Colak (Conan)! Collecting issues #1-4 along with the original script to issue #1 and a complete cover gallery featuring the art of Bart Sears, Jae Lee, Jonathan Case, Rob Liefeld, Sean Chen, Bob Layton, and many more!

063

Doctor Strange: The Flight of Bones – Marvel Comics – $24.99. Doctor Strange is hitting the height of the character’s popularity now. This is a collection of stories from the 90s.

Doctor Strange turns Marvel Knight and plays supernatural detective when a series of bizarre robberies and a spate of spontaneous combustions set him on the trail of an old enemy. Magic meets noir in an atmospheric Strange tale! Plus, in stories from standout creators, the good Doctor makes a deal with the devil, and the former surgeon must be a very different healer when he hears of a man’s deep grief.

COLLECTING: DOCTOR STRANGE (1999) 1-4, MYSTIC HANDS OF DOCTOR STRANGE 1, MATERIAL FROM MARVEL SHADOWS AND LIGHT (1997) 1, SHADOWS & LIGHT (1998) 2, MARVEL DOUBLE-SHOT 4

Comic Bento is such an awesome value! All four of these books were packaged so well together and arrived in spectacular condition. As stated earlier, there is a theme but there’s also a ton of variety, and the theming of this box is pretty unique amongst comic subscriptions. The curator’s notes really bring the theme together, and that made this box even more awesome!
