A December Book Box Spoiler from Boxwalla!

This December, we bring you writers from China, Mexico & Iran. Curling up with their extraordinary books makes the world seem strangely smaller. These writers have the incredible skill to reveal both the quirks as well as the universality of the human experience. Whether it is a young woman trying to create her own life in a somewhat surreal town. Or a highly distinguished Mexican diplomat moaning the loss of his glasses in Venice – these unusual selections are as entertaining as they are thought provoking.

Remember that scene in Devil Wears Prada in which Meryl Streep’s character wants Ann Hathaway’s character to get her children the ‘new Harry Potter Book’ before its official release? Well guess what?? We’ve done just that for you! Chinese writer Can Xue’s new book Frontier, is due for release in March, but Boxwalla book subscribers, will get their hands on it this December. Frontier starts with the story of a young woman trying to make her life in a surreal place called Pebble Town.

Can Xue (which is her pseudonym) refers to both the stubborn dirty snow that refuses to melt, as well as the purest snow at the top of the mountain. This intriguing choice of name provides the tiniest of glimpses into the contrarian way her mind spins stories. Stories that will pull you deeper and deeper into a world that is both real and unreal. A Neustadt Prize finalist (The Neustadt Prize in Literature is often referred to as the ‘American Nobel’), Can Xue is thought of as the literary descendant or heir to Kafka and Borges.
