eSalon’s Custom Color service provides individual hair color, crafted just for you, with personalized instructions for an easy at-home application. Before selecting your color, eSalon has you complete a hair profile to get a better understanding of your hair (condition, color desires, texture, etc.) and information on your skin tone and eye color. This helps to customize a color that is complementary to you.  

Everything in you color kit is personalized from your directions to color.

All of the tools in your color kit are safely packaged in a molded holder. Your kit contains your custom color, developer, and coloring accessories. For this box, eSalon included a bonus color enhancer.

Everything in the color accessories kit – Heart Lock It Shampoo & Love Unconditionally Conditioner, 2 pairs of gloves, Stain Guard, and Stain Remover.

My color selection was Dark Brown (Chocolate). This kit is a full-color application. I changed my shade slightly for fall and went a little darker with a hint of red. There’s also a sticker to hold up your instructions on a wall or mirror as you color.

Hanging my directions from the bathroom mirror made it easier to read them than when I have them on my counter (I have limited space). It’s the little things that make me happy.

Developer and custom color for phase one. This gets applied to my roots and develops for 15 minutes, and then onto phase two.

For phase 2, the color enhancer and developer are mixed and used on the ends of my hair. This was an added bonus to my box. To get some additional color dimension, eSalon suggests adding the color enhancer to your hair from root to tip before rinsing. I noticed a strong ammonia scent when I used this. Thankfully, it only had to process for 10 minutes.

My before and after shots. There’s not too much of a difference in the color, but in the after (right) picture you can see that the color is a little deeper. I didn’t get a good shot of my ends, but they were very brassy and sun bleached. The dye brought their color more in line with the rest of my hair. Also, my white hairs are covered – I don’t have many, but they’re in there.

I was happy with the new color I chose. It’s darker but makes my hair look healthier. Now, if only there was a stylist in a box subscription. I desperately need a haircut.
