Beauteque offers two subscriptions featuring Asian beauty products delivered to your door monthly.  Products include makeup, skin care, body care, and more.  For $22 per month, your BB Bag comes with 6-8 full size products.  If you like masks, the Mask Maven subscription brings you 9-11 various masks monthly starting at $14.  The following is a review of the August BB Bag.

Aww, I was hoping to receive another fun, themed Beauteque bag.  Last month’s was so adorable.

The entire August Beauteque BB Bag!

MEDAL WORTHY BEAUTY:  Take home the gold this month!  August’s theme has a bit of an Olympic tie in.

The fold out card has information on each of the products and basic how to use directions.  Pricing for products varied across sites.  The prices listed are those of Beauteque, unless otherwise noted.

Plush Headband ($5.00):  A soft headband to keep hairs off your face when applying makeup or your favorite masks.  This has an adjustable Velcro closure, allowing for a comfortable fit.

Hanaka Innerskin 3-Step Hydration Mask ($7.99):  This was an interesting mask pack.

Step 1 is an essence that is applied all over the face.  It contains various plant extracts, hyaluronic acid, and niacinamide to moisturize and restore skin tone.

Step 2 consists of under eye patches.  Apply this before Step 1 has fully absorbed.  The eye patches are thin, dry sheets and the essence helps adhere them to your skin.  I made the mistake of putting these too high under my eye.  The patches provide a boost of Vitamin B3 and ginseng to brighten and improve the under-eye area.

Finally, Step 3 is the sheet mask.  Apply this over the eye patches and wear for 20-30 minutes.  The essence in the mask will dissolve the eye patches so that they can be absorbed into the skin.  Since I applied my patches too high, there were traces of them left when I removed the mask.

BB Mask

I noticed a reduction in the darkness under my eyes and my skin felt a bit fuller.

Deoproce Green Tea Essence Moisture Toner ($13.99):  There’s a slight difference in price between the info card and Beauteque shop, which has this listed at $15.00.  Before I get into the toner, how gorgeous is that frosted bottle?!?  In addition to providing antioxidants, green tea has soothing properties to treat irritated skin.  Before my foray into K-beauty subscriptions, I was a longtime user of Welcos’ The First Green Tea product line, so this was a pleasant and welcome addition to my BB Bag.  The toner has a similar consistency to the essences found in sheet masks and a light, floral scent I’ve come to associate with green tea products.  Due to the consistency, it was a bit difficult to get out of the bottle and worked better on a cotton round than ball.  It absorbed quickly and did not leave a residue on my skin.

Ladykin Elmaju Cactus Aqua Cream ($23.00):  Another pricing discrepancy here but much larger this time.  On the Beauteque site, this is listed at $12.99.  The formula contains 75% prickly pear extract – an ingredient known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.  While this cream is said to help control oil balance, it is highly recommended for dry and sensitive skin types.  In the picture, this looks very rich but is actually lightweight.  It does take a little bit for it to fully absorb.

Tsaio Clear Pore Treatment Set ($12.99):  This is a 2-piece kit to treat blemishes.  Knock on wood, but I haven’t had a bad breakout in a while.  Not sure if I should hold this or pass onto my niece.

The pimple tonic contains 0.5% salicylic acid (from white willow bark extract) for gentle spot treatment.  The formula also has a blend of burdock root and thyme extracts (antibacterial and anti-fungal), aloe (soothing), and witch hazel (astringent).

The papain remove mask harnesses the power of papain (an enzyme found in papaya) to reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and heal skin.  It also contains horse chestnut extract, which helps with circulation.  This is a black peel off mask.

**MYSTERY LIP PRODUCT**  A’pieu Finger Blusher – WH01 ($6.50 approx.):  Let me clarify – this is not a lip product but a cream blush.  I guess this falls under the umbrella of other from this description on the info card, “Whether it be a lipstick, a tint, a balm, liner, or other…”.  This product can be found at Rue21, but not all shades (including this one) are available.  This is a light peach shade that can be built upon for a more glowy look.  I’m gifting this to a fairer complexioned friend.

BB Bag

Here’s this month’s bag.  It’s a cream and aqua nylon bag.  The base expands slightly, allowing it to stand upright.

This month’s Beauteque BB Bag  contained around $60 worth of product using the prices listed on Beauteque ($10 less than the prices listed on the info card).  I liked that the products could be used together in a skincare regime; all that was missing is a cleanser.  I really enjoyed the 3-step mask pack and look forward to seeing more of these in future BB Bags.  Have you tried Beauteque yet?  Share your experience by leaving a comment below.

On a Side Note:  Before trying any Asian cosmetic subscription, expect that most information on the package will be in the native language.  That said, more and more brands are including directions/ingredients in English, and information can also be found in English on the majority of brands’ websites (you may have to choose a brand’s global or US site).  Secondly, a large number of products focus on brightening or whitening the skin.  As a person of color, I have not seen my skin color change.  Instead, I’ve experienced that my skin tone gets evened out after prolonged use.  However, your results may be different.  And lastly, many products contain ingredients which are animal-derived, so these may not be an option if you are vegan.  You can also check out cosDNA.com to see if the ingredients for the product are listed there.
