My Lemon Crate is an essential oil monthly subscription box.  In each box, they send everything needed to make 3-5 complete theme-based recipes (e.g., health and beauty products, items for around the home, etc.) each month.  The boxes cost $29/month.  Let’s see what’s inside!

One thing I love about My Lemon Crate is how clean and bright everything looks.  Between the yellow squiggly paper and the crisply labeled bottles, this box is so much fun to open each month.20160805_185408

On the inside of the box, there is a placard that introduces the theme and lists the included projects.  This month’s theme is Back to School…either the happiest or saddest of times, depending on how tired of your kids you are, right?  Just kidding.  A little bit.

Here’s a look at everything in the box.  As I’ve said before, I’m still fairly new to making essential oil products at home, so the fact that My Lemon Crate projects are labeled with both what the item is and what project it is used for makes things super easy for me.  Additionally, the instructions provided (available on Pinterest, Youtube, and by email to subscribers) are clear and easy to follow.

Inside the little muslin bag is a collection of essential oils to use in the projects.  The variety of oils that I’ve received over the last few months of My Lemon Crate has been great – I’m learning so much from the projects as well as the helpful information about the oils that is included with the instructions.  My Lemon Crate promises to send therapeutic grade essential oils.  In addition to the oils, My Lemon Crate sends all the other premium natural ingredients and the containers you need to make the projects.  The box contains everything necessary to make each of the projects, but even better, the recipes give ingredient detail amounts so you can make and remake the projects after the supplied materials are used up.  Let’s check out this month’s projects!

Breath Spray:  Projects really do not get a whole lot easier than this one.  I simply added spearmint oil (plus a few grains of salt, as per the recipe) to some purified water…and voila – breath spray!  I love spearmint (and hate peppermint breath sprays), so I was excited to get this project.  Works like a charm and was super simple!

Courage Booster and Tantrum Tamer:  I took the picture of the bottles for these two projects together because they use the same carrier oil – but it also turns out that both are similar in another way.  Both projects use the essential oils as aromatherapy to change your mood or mindset.  For the Courage Booster, I mixed the Northern Lights Black Spruce oil and the Bergamot oil with the carrier.  These oils reduce anxiety and depression and are uplifting.  For the Tantrum Tamer, I mixed Vetiver and Orange oils with the carrier.  Vetiver provides calming, while Orange provides joy and peace.  Both projects are meant to be applied to the temples or base of the neck.  My Lemon Crate also provides a diagram of Vita Flex, or pressure, points on your feet that correspond to various body systems.  I had never used the Northern Lights Black Spruce oil before, so this was fun to learn about.  I have always loved Orange and Bergamot aromas – so I enjoyed both of these projects.

Blemish Blend:  This was another easy project – mixing Manuka and Melrose oils with the provided carrier oil.  These two essential oils have been used to treat skin problems and have antimicrobial properties.  My teen and tween daughters have acne – I’m not sure this will do the trick for them, but I’m willing to give it a shot if it helps them cut out, or at least decrease, some of the chemicals they currently use on their faces.20160805_185541

Lice Spray:  I have been through the whole lice rigmarole before…and I’m not anxious to do it again.  But when I was in the midst of it, we did use a store-bought spray made of lavender and rosemary, and it seemed to help (once we got rid of the little buggers…the second time).  So, although I’m hoping I never have to make up this project, should the need arise, I’m glad I can consider making my own batch of demon, I mean lice, spray.

Bottom Line:  I am really enjoying my experience with My Lemon Crate boxes.  The projects have all been useful and easy to do.  Also, I like how My Lemon Crate tells me about the properties of the oils and gives me hints about how to redo the projects later with my own supplies.  This is a great, stress-free introduction to working with essential oils and I like making my own sprays and lotions – rather than always buying them.
