Tea Box Express is a monthly subscription box containing a brand-name whole-leaf tea (either loose leaf or in a pyramid bag) plus 3-4 other tea related items, which may include infusers, measuring spoons, or food items like chocolate or cookies. It costs $25.50 for a monthly box, plus $6.49 for shipping. They offer 1, 3, or 6 month terms and each will automatically renew (or choose the gift option, which doesn’t renew). This was my first Tea Box Express and I was super impressed with the presentation. I received my items in a sturdy cardboard box and everything was cushioned with shredded paper and bubble wrap (I recycle bubble wrap to use with my preschool students so this is a bonus!). Tea Box Express aims to “deliver a tea party to your door every month”.
There was a card inside that gave info on how to share your box on social media for a chance to win a free box. It also listed the website address where you can get more information on your box.
I also received a personalized letter that listed the products in my box.
I love black tea and have been drinking it since I was very young. Oliver Pluff & Co. Blackberry Black Tea Blend ($12.95) transported me back to high school when I used to drink one that smelled exactly like this. I used 1 1/2 teaspoons of the loose leaf tea and steeped for 5 minutes which resulted in a light taste that was not bitter at all. I also used it to make iced tea and it had a great fruity flavor.
I like the fact that Oliver Pluff & Co. lists the brewing instructions on the can. The packaging is beautiful. I may have to leave this on my counter since it looks so fancy.
Too bad computers don’t have Smell-O-Vision because this stuff smells heavenly!
Next up was Oliver Pluff & Co. Cacao Mint Tea ($10), which is made with just two ingredients, cacao shells and peppermint. Cacao shells contain theobromine, a mild stimulant that is distantly related to caffeine. I added a little sugar to offset the mild bitterness of this unique infusion.
Martha and George Washington requested cocoa shells to make “cocoa tea”. I wonder if Martha added herbs to her brew?
My regular fine mesh strainer wasn’t fine enough to keep all of the particles out of my finished drink so I would suggest using a disposable tea filter bag or coffee filter to keep your finished brew from looking murky.
Maybe I should have used the Fox Run Brands Mesh Infuser ($7.71) to brew the cacao tea but it hadn’t been washed yet. I usually use tea bags rather than loose leaf tea so I am happy to finally have an infuser in my house. This is a very practical and appropriate item for a tea subscription box.
I loved these Grey Ghost Bakery Cookies! Almond Toffee was sweet and buttery. Molasses Spice had pieces of crystallized ginger inside. My favorite was Chocolate Cayenne. I mistakenly thought this would taste like chili or something but it tasted like a brownie, and then just a moment after you swallow you get some heat in your mouth from the cayenne. Amazing! Each bag contained two soft, chewy cookies. ($2 value each)
My July Tea Box Express was a winner! This box was thoughtfully curated, I love that the black tea is summerific and perfect for iced tea, and the other items rounded out the box nicely. This would make a lovely gift for someone special since the presentation was beautiful and I felt like I had received a very upscale box. The July box had a value of $36.66, which is higher than the price of the box plus shipping. The whole experience was impressive.
