I love that each month there is a new quote or line from a famous author on the cover of the enclosed pamphlet. This months selection is from Jane Eyre and reminds me that I have never finished that classic love story.

Our theme this month is secrets! The descriptions of each book are once again vague which I am super excited about because as I’ve stated previously the descriptions did nothing to make me want to read the books. I always like the little inscription that makes me feel like they know me just by knowing what genre I read. We were treated to a little slice of history this month too for the 4th of July. I love that each month the founders take the time to hand write something in each card, it brings a personal touch to the subscription.

The understated back side of the pamphlet just lets everyone know how to stay connected via social media.

Remember Mia by Alexandra Burt ($16 list, $10.07 on Amazon)

Like Girl on the Train and Gone Girl, Remember Mia is a riveting psychological suspense, exploring what happens when a young mother’s worst nightmare becomes devastatingly real…

First I remember the darkness.
Then I remember the blood.
I don’t know where my daughter is.

Estelle Paradise wakes up in a hospital after being found near dead at the bottom of a ravine with a fragmented memory and a vague sense of loss. Then a terrifying reality sets in: her daughter is missing.

Days earlier, Estelle discovered her baby’s crib empty in their Brooklyn apartment. There was no sign of a break-in, but all traces of seven-month-old Mia had disappeared. Her diapers, her clothes, her bottles—all gone.

Frustrated and unable to explain her daughter’s disappearance, Estelle begins a desperate search. But when the lack of evidence casts doubt on her story, Estelle becomes the number one suspect in the eyes of the police and the media.

As hope of reuniting with Mia becomes all she has left, Estelle will do anything to find answers: What has she done to her baby? And what has someone else done to her?IMG_1897

I have to say that this plot line of a missing child makes me very uneasy because as a mother it’s my worst nightmare. I tend to shy away from television shows that  indicate harm toward children and I was a little apprehensive about reading the first couple pages. Well let me tell you what, the first few (more like 20) pages really had me hooked. The writing flows so well that it was hard to put it down. I can already tell this is a simple read and I will have it done in a sitting.

The Deepest Secret by Carla Buckley ($26 list, unavailable on Amazon – $10.38 for paperback)

For fans of Jodi Picoult, Kim Edwards, and William Landay, The Deepest Secret is part intimate family drama, part gripping page-turner, exploring the profound power of the truths we’re scared to face . . . about our marriages, our children, and ourselves.

Twelve years ago, Eve Lattimore’s life changed forever. Her two-year-old son Tyler on her lap, her husband’s hand in hers, she waited for the child’s devastating diagnosis: XP, a rare genetic disease, a fatal sensitivity to sunlight. Eve remembers that day every morning as she hustles Tyler up the stairs from breakfast before the sun rises, locking her son in his room, curtains drawn, computer glowing, as he faces another day of virtual schooling, of virtual friendships. But every moment of vigilance is worth it. This is Eve’s job, to safeguard her boy against the light, to protect his fragile life each day, to keep him alive—maybe even long enough for a cure to be found.

Tonight, Eve’s life is about to change again, forever. It’s only an instant on a rainy road—just a quick text as she sits behind the wheel—and another mother’s child lies dead in Eve’s headlights. The choice she faces is impossible: confess and be taken from Tyler, or drive away and start to lie like she’s never lied before.

The above description is from Amazon and made this book sound stellar. The dust jacket on the actual novel was a little less gripping. I’m excited to read this book because it doesn’t sound like a cookie cutter book about suburban life.

As always I love Book Case Club and the selections they have made for me. I was a little disappointed that my paperback book came with damage to the back cover but it wasn’t anything that will harm the integrity of the rest of the book. I’m looking forward to getting to read these new book from new to me authors. I find it truly spectacular that I’ve never seen the same author twice from this subscription because I’m hoping to find my next favorite author.
