The theme for January was welcome to BatBox, to welcome every subscriber old and new to 2016! And this box smelled SO GOOD I couldn’t even believe it.
The Austin Bat Box is a monthly indie and artisan subscription box from Austin TX! Every month you’ll receive 4-5 items that coordinate with that month’s theme. Items range from food and beverages, handmade artisan items, art, music, fashion items, decor, jewelry, games, beauty products, and a whole bunch of weird stuff – because let’s face it, it’s Austin! I honestly thought the name stemmed from the keep Austin weird campaign, but it turns out that it’s named after their local bat colony. Also weird.
All the information is on the card – and most importantly the makers’ websites!
Everything in the January 2016 Austin Bat Box!
AcoustiCoffee Print from MidMourning Art & Post Dreamism: hello coffeelephants-pants! This artist has been featured in the box before but this is totally a different style and a fun accompaniment to what sort of turned out to be a wake up to 2016 theme. This will also fit so perfectly in my best friend’s kitchen that I am framing it and sending it to her.
Band of the Month: Phoenix Down – Live Forever: I really loved the previous music I have sampled in this subscription so I was excited to check it out! It’s sort of like very atmospheric guitar pop! Austin, being weird, produces a lot of great musicians.
Lucky Lab Coffee Co – Classic Blend: I am not a coffee drinker but my husband (as always) is excited to try out a new roaster. These beans are ground, which is how I expect them to be in a non-coffee subscription box.
This makes me want to drink coffee and move back to the south. I totally love looking up all the makers for this box every time I review one.
Abi’s Custom Art Sticker: I love this retroish Austin sticker! It’s awesome for my laptop. And has a Texas star!
Divine Luxury Solid Lotion Bar and either a storage tin or Bath Salt Sample: I finally found the source of the amazing smell of this box!
My lotion bar was in revitalizing eucalyptus and the bath salts in citrus delight. They were both amazing and the perfect wake-me-up.
Kerbey Lane Cafe Buttermilk Pancake Mix: this cafe is so popular in Austin (since 1980!) that they sell mixes for some of their most favorite items! Like most of the things that come in this box it’s a great nostalgia item, a great new find, or just a cool local good. I can’t wait to bust into a big stack of these. I’m thinkin waffles.
This was a really fun box! Given the theme I didn’t actually expect there to be a cohesiveness to the items but there was! There are so many independent artisans and artists in Austin this box is completely different every time I receive it and there are always 100% new discoveries, which makes it super awesome. Also you should note that this box has been selling out rapidly each month, so if you’re interested, the time to subscribe is before February sells out!
