Inside the new Chococurb Mini box, you’ll find assortment of 3 chocolates or chocolate related items. These items can come from small, local chocolatiers or more established national brands. Every box will have something new, exciting, and absolutely delicious. For those who desire even more decadence each month, the regular-sized Chococurb box contains 5-7 chocolates or chocolate related items per month. This mini box really delivered! It came inside a priority mail envelope in the above cardboard box.

IMG_1337Upon opening the box, I was especially taken by the pretty packaging.

IMG_1339This month’s box contained three chocolate bars: Manoa Chocolate Hawaii’s Goat Milk 69% Dark Chocolate, Woodblock Chocolate Manufactory’s Toasted Sesame Dark Chocolate and Alma Handmade Chocolate’s Salty Nutty Toffee Mini Bar.

IMG_1342At first glance, the label of Manoa Chocolate Hawaii’s Goat Milk 69% ($9.56) chocolate bar confused me. Was it 69% cacao or 69% goat milk?

IMG_1344Curious, but not necessarily excited, I opened up the packaging to reveal this gorgeous bar of dark chocolate. I had to take a picture! Then I took a bite. It is, without a doubt, the best bar of dark chocolate (69% cacao) I have ever had in my life. And I love dark chocolate; I eat a lot of it. This was other-worldly. It has all the sultry deliciousness of dark chocolate without any of its usual bitterness. I didn’t taste anything that screamed out goat milk either. I offered a bite to my son whose response was “Mom, that’s really great chocolate!” Even my husband, who only likes milk chocolate, enjoyed it. It’s wonderful.

IMG_1340Woodblock Chocolate Manufacotry’s Toasted Sesame Dark Chocolate ($4) was, unfortunately, not as successful as Manoa’s decadent Goat Milk bar. The chocolate itself, produced from cacao sourced from both Ecuador and Peru, was extremely bitter. The addition of the toasted sesame only distracted from the chocolate. Even my husband, who loves toasted sesame, asked why people felt as if they had to add additional flavors to chocolate.

IMG_1341Luckily, we still had one bar to go: Alma’s Salty Nutty Toffee Mini Bar ($5).

IMG_1362This salty, crunchy, nutty, sweet chocolate dream won the “Rising Star” award at the Next Generation Chocolatier Awards. Even my husband, who proclaimed “I don’t like toffee,” loved this bar. It was delicious. Although it would make a great after dinner treat, I think it would be an especially apropos snack for a cool day on the trail. The delicious combination of salt (electrolytes), hazelnuts and pistachios (protein) and chocolate and toffee (carbs) would be a welcome treat after a long day’s hike.

This was such a fun and delicious box to receive! I’m looking forward to tasting my way through many more fantastic boxes in the coming months. In the meantime, I’m excited that I can purchase more of the Manoa and Alma bars at the Chococurb website. So convenient!

I enjoyed reading your review. I don’t think I ever had a chocolate bar that had goat milk in it. The toffee bar is a work of art. i am looking forward to reading your next review!
