bespoke post frost november 2015 box

Bespoke Post continues to occupy the top tier of men’s subscription boxes.  Each month, you’ll get to choose from one of the limited-edition boxes filled with an array of products built around a central, unique theme — for November, we chose the appropriately named FROST box, in preparation for the increasingly frigid temps.  If you are fortunate to live at a latitude where this isn’t a big concern, have no fear.  There are usually two or three new boxes to choose from every month in addition to a selection of past boxes. One of the great things about this subscription is that you can skip the month if you’re not interested in it.  Save $9 on your first box with coupon code FREEBEER.

The latest Bespoke Post is FROST.

Cold weather shouldn’t harsh your style.

A good coat gets you part of the way there, but to look really sharp amid the lower temperatures, you’re going to need some additional protection. So when the forecast is rough on your skin and your outlook, pack some practical supplies and then slide on a pair of extra-soft, extra-handsome gloves.

Bespoke Post always comes in the signature orange box, lovingly cradled in tissue and accompanied by an info booklet.

The booklet is an extended info card, providing a paragraph of information on each item in your box.  The tone is light and fun, but you get the pertinent details.  Then, there is always a brief style, grooming, or hacking guide that is thematically related to your current Bespoke Post selections — this box had tips on slight modifications geared toward adapting your growing rituals to colder weather and the drier air that comes with it.

Barnaby Black Wild Harvested White Pine Hand Salve ($18):  Using wild-harvested white pine sap from Connecticut and Rhode Island, this “wildcrafted” salve has the fantastic scent of pine, but not the tackiness.  Natural antibacterial properties are an added bonus.

bespoke post frost november 2015 IMG_2267 Fisherman’s Friend Original Extra Strength Lozenges ($2.92):  The recipe dates back to 1865, and these strong lozenges have been around that long for good reason.  Menthol, capsicum, eucalyptus, and licorice join together to to function as a cough suppressant and oral anesthetic to sooth sore throats.  Flavored like a Altoid with more character, these are a better alternative to the cloying sweetness of a conventional cough drop.

Gilded Age Lambskin Leather Touchscreen Gloves:  With a thin liner and classic styling, these are perfect medium-weight gloves for fall and winter wear.

The fit is pretty good right of the bat.  The lambskin will also stretch a bit with some wear, so snug is good.  The lambskin is a very, very dark brown that looks like black in all but the brightest light.  I think these are a rare tone that would work with both a black-based ensemble or a brown or earthy tone.

The glove design is simple and not over-styled.  These are heavier than dress gloves, in that they have a light liner, but they are light enough that they will make excellent driving gloves (I am not planning on subjecting them to the stresses of shoveling, though).

bespoke post frost november 2015 IMG_2270The thumb and index finger each have a conductive patch that allows you to operate a touchscreen device without removing your gloves.  You won’t be as dexterous as you would be barehanded, but you will avoid frostbite and still get your email.

bespoke post frost november 2015 IMG_2271The wrist has a snap enclosure — I had no difficulty getting the gloves on and off without unsnapping, but it may prove useful when worn with thick sleeves.

I like these gloves a lot — the fit is good, and they are the perfect weight for Fall through Spring wear (the lambskin blocks wind, allowing you to get by with the modest liner).   They are a great mid-weight glove, good for driving and similar modest-dexterity activities.  These are not second-skin tight gloves, so I am unlikely to attempt threading needles while wearing them; likewise, they are not super-duty work gloves or suited to an arctic expedition.  They are, however, a nice compromise glove for light work, casual, and dress wear.

Bespoke Post was one of my very first subscription boxes, and I still order it regularly.  Everything is very high quality, and the fashion items are very tasteful.  Most of all, I find that the selections are extremely useful.  The FROST box is a fine example of how Bespoke Post identifies the key concerns arising in a common scenario and offers practical, beautiful solutions.
