Ok guys, I know that Julep has attempted to communicate the information about the new customized boxes, and it is super confusing. I have gathered information from their posts, from my own experience, and from other people in order to create this post. As far as I know (as always), the information is accurate. Please comment if you have something to add! I will include the items that you can swap for at the bottom of the post to help you decide if you are going to switch and which box to select when you do switch.
First, if you are an existing customer, know that you do not have to upgrade, but you can. Also know that new polish upgrades are now $6.99/950 Jules. You will pay your monthly fee, either as someone who is allowed to skip, or someone who isn’t! Obviously this adds the pressure to upgrade to a prepaid subscription, which I think is probably the best value – and keep it locked down to that!
Updated June 1: New Mavens can customize their box as much (or as little) as they like. Sign up for 1 month and pay $24.99/month ($4.99 shipping for your welcome box), or sign up for 3 months and pay only $19.99/month (FREE shipping on your welcome box!!)! Take the Style Quiz and enter FREEBOX at checkout to get your first box free. I totally recommend picking up the 3 month customizable subscription! I am loving being to pick out exactly what I want!
Upgrading to a Customizable Julep Maven Box
Log in to Julep, and find this button.
You will see this popup. VERY IMPORTANT ONLY CLICK THE BUTTONS FOR THE MONTHLY OR 3 MONTH SUBSCRIPTIONS IF YOU ARE SURE! You will be presented with options:
You will not receive any confirmation that you have switched, once you press one of the pink buttons, your switch is complete. Um, yes, this totally happened to me. I wanted to see if I could play with it first. Nope!
So be sure that you want to do it, because you cannot return to a customized box – but you can prepay to keep the same price. You can switch between My Maven & Maven Luxe – but you must call Julep customer service on the phone to do it (I’d be much happier if I could change it online!).
A final warning for those of you using Jules to purchase a box. Here are the costs:
- Maven and My Maven boxes – 2,000 Jules
- Maven Luxe – 4,000 Jules
- Polish Lover Upgrade: 5,000 Jules
- Ultimate Upgrade: 7,500 Jules
I don’t think the Maven Luxe is really the best value at all. If you have the Jules and want 4 polishes, you can snag the My Maven customizable box for 2,000 and an extra polish for 950 Jules. I could be wrong here, I can’t access the Maven Luxe! Also, it says I don’t have enough Jules (I totally do).
What can I swap for?
FYI, You cannot customize an upgrade box. Bummer. I might have upgraded to the full collection were I able to swap out the light blue color.
Fortunately, swapping out products is totally intuitive. Just click what you don’t want and the entire list will appear below your selections, like so:
If you remove more than one item from your box, you’ll have even MORE options!

I love the whole collection but I’m so confused! I don’t know whether to call in and switch to Maven Luxe. Here’s my box so far:
