Unplugged Book Box is a monthly subscription box that sends a new release young adult or new-adult book plus items to help you unplug from your daily life and recharge. Self care goodies AND a book? Yes, please! I think one of my favorite things about this box is that it is curated to the season. There are 3 boxes per season and they are marked “Autumnal Equinox”, “Winter Solstice”, and so on. What can you expect to find in the box?

NOTE: This subscription will soon give the option of choosing an adult fiction box, more info to come but I believe it starts with the March box. I think the fandoms will also be oriented towards adults.
This is the second of the Winter Solstice boxes and I absolutely love this quote, isn’t it beautiful!
There was a delay with the January box but Unplugged Book Box kept subscribers notified. It had to do with an unexpected change from a hardcover book to paperback and the company was very transparent and even asked subscribers to weigh in on a couple of options.

The back of the card listed the “spoilers”, or items in the box. The items tie in with different fandoms, TV shows, and books. For instance, one of the items is inspired by Harry Potter. Most of the items can be found on Etsy. It also lists some unboxing challenges in case you want to share your photos on Instagram and possibly win a prize.

My items were tucked into tissue paper and shredded paper squiggles. Sometimes my filters do weird things but all of this blue paper was actually purple!
Some of the items were wrapped like presents. My 15-year old daughter helps me unbox and she loves opening all of the presents. She is also asking me to move quickly so she can start reading these books!

One thing that we receive in this box is cards. This one reminds me why I really need to reach my water goals.
The back has a place to record other goals for the year ahead.
Another card gave tips on how to achieve my goals once I set them down on paper.
The back of that card has space to write reflections.
One of my favorite things about this subscription is the Spotify playlist! Look, there’s even Panic! At The Disco this month! Please note that some of the songs are listed as explicit so keep that in mind if you’re streaming around little ones.
On the back of the playlist is a recipe for a smoothie.
This is the last card and it has the theme for the February box!
The back of the card lists a vendor sneak peek. I had a look around the Get Fictional Candles website and they have a huge selection of fandom-based candles, including four from Outlander! I was also impressed to see one from Moulin Rouge.
Book Light (Find similar item here, $11.99) I love Harry Potter, it is one of my all-time favorite book series and movies! My oldest cried when she finished reading the last in the series. She was 9 and asked, “What am I supposed to read now?”
The front of the clip says “Lumos,” which of course is a light spell from Harry. See that little piece of clear plastic sticking out? Pull it out before using so the battery will work.
It has a clip to fix it to a book and it is flexible. There is a sliding switch at the top over the bulb end, just slide it to turn the light on and then slide back to turn it off.
Winter is Here Beanie ($10?) Almost every Game of Thrones-themed beanie or product says “Winter is Coming” so I thought this made for a nice change. The label on the inside says HitWear, which is a brand that places logos and such on items. It is 100% acrylic and one size fits most.
Finding Blue Lip Balm by Cherry Pit Crafts ($3) is inspired by Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda.
It has natural ingredients and although the flavor isn’t listed, I would say cotton candy.
I have been using this before bed and I love the flavor, plus it was still on my lips in the morning! Make sure your hands are dry and do not have oils or lotion on them when you open the container because the color will come off on your fingers.
The Witchs Bath Lunar Dust Bath Bomb Crumbles in Juniper Breeze ($4 for 6-7 ounces) is inspired by The Lunar Chronicles and the label reflects this, listing a sickness that caused a pandemic in the series.
When the red and blue mix in the tub you get PURPLE! Unlike a traditional bath bomb, you can control how much you place in your tub so the amount of uses from this bag is up to you. The scent is floral and green.
Three Knocks Candles I Smell Snow ($7.50?) This little shop is taking a break so I couldn’t find the value for this candle but similar ones are $7.50. The fandom featured is Gilmore Girls.
The scent is icy peppermint and cranberry woods. It smells amazing and I could even smell it burning from the next room over.
The top has a pretty shimmer to it thanks to glitter.
The Nirvana Threads by Rachel Tremblay ($11.99) Unplugged Book Box was disappointed when their featured book was delivered and it turned out to be a paperback, so they decided to throw in an extra book to make up for the snafu. Both books are in the magical realism genre, and perhaps this one is more for the adults, while I plan on giving the other book to my teenager.

Analese Rising by Brenda Drake (List price $9.99, now $7.40) Magical realism came up as the answer to a Jeopardy question the other day and before I could explain the genre to my daughter we were on to the next question. Bam, here’s a book in that genre! It is also a mystery and lots of mythological characters show up too, and I know my daughter loved the Percy Jackson series so I can’t wait to see what she thinks of this novel.

Inside the book was a sticker signed by the author that you can choose to place on the inside cover.
There was a letter from the author. She reminds us that Unplugged Book Box is a great way to take some time out for ourselves as we enjoy the products in the box.
There is always a letter to be read after finishing the book.
The letter asks how the reader felt about the story and characters and directed members to the Facebook group.
Unplugged Book Box is a great way to remind yourself every month to take some time to kick back with a good book and take care of yourself. The book is always a new release and is usually young adult or new-adult fiction. The self-care items come from lots of different fandoms and while I might not be familiar with all of them, that’s ok, because then I learn something new! I can’t wait to see how their new adult box looks to see how the fandoms and products differ from this current offering! I had to guess at the value of some of the items but maybe around $55.88, not including the curation, playlist, and other extras that go along with this subscription, such as the author’s note.
